So around 4pm I decided to hunt the same area as this morning. This time I know where I’m going, how to approach and have the wind in my favor.
Took Craig with me as he was going bow hunting for deer. I said it’s windy and 82 degrees. I’m pretty sure we can get on some hogs. I set him in my first spot from this morning. I walked maybe 50 yards away and looked up and seen what liooked like a black rhino turn and run away from me. It was a giant boar hog. I walked another .35 and was closing in on the other spot I found w a little bit of water. I crept up when the wind gust blew and stopped when it wasn’t. Finally got to within 60 yards and had a hog at the waterhole rooting in the mud next to the water. As soon as I got almost into position it moved to my right, not being able to see it for some time. I eased up and waited. As in the morning hunt the hog came back finally giving me a shot….full frontal between the eyes and collapsed. I stood there, texted Craig that we will be dragging. Two minutes later another hog appears from the same spot the other one did next to the wet area. I tried to line up a shot but couldn’t make a good shot. This hog walks past the dead one and walks away from me. Finally turning to circle around giving me a quartering away shot and the bullet found it’s mark behind the ear. Pancake city.
Craig text me saying a hog busted him, coming from behind him and downwind. At sunset he shoots and he texted me “coyote”. I tell him I’m gonna start dragging. Well both hogs weigh about 100# and I have a cinch strap. Around one neck and tie a bowlin knot and loop around the other head and let’s just say I’m not dragging hogs out anymore. Texted Craig for help while I tried to catch my breath and gut them both. We managed to get them to my atv. Hunter helped me clean them and he said he had a doe right before shooting time but didn’t work out.
