He walks away, and maintainers spend the next 7 days fixing everything he fucked up….. That jet that was leak free, is no longer leak free…. Cool story, though….
This is what my brain processed. His ego ruined a perfectly good plane for anyone else to enjoy. Now he's being put on a platform to further share his cool story. Meanwhile the tax payers should be pissed for his stupidity and blatant disregard for rules and regulations.

Well he was the Maintenance officer for that VMFA (by his story) so he created his own problem -if- that was the case. The A/C mission capable tail numbers are his ass reporting to the CC. As is his job to test flight repaired or new A/C - this is the test flight of a new tail.

I have yet to meet an officer worth a fuck. ALL of them have been pompous assholes. Just my 2 cents.
People are people, Enlisted, WO or Officer. Character and ability don't pin on with chevrons or bars. Just my $.02.

Yes he did, and removed a few hundred hours off of its service life for no reason at all, other than too stroke his ego… The fighters lose enough service life while in actual combat missions, no need too add too the abuse if it’s not needed. Wonder if he logged breaking the parameters of the airframes limitations?

Sore subject after maintaining for 35 years….

Back in the day, we (AF) had DCM’s they were in charge of all maintenance. Usually a 0-6 rated pilot. They walked on water. And they demanded accountability. They weren’t worried about yanking a pilot outta the seat and kicking him off of HIS airplane. We had a pilot fuck up the empennage of a 130 during a LAPES. Pilot made a joke walking away from it. Just a snide comment about maintenance will deal with it.
Plane sat in a hanger for 4 months. Had an entry control point with a sign in sheet. Every maintainer signed in, signed out. That captain was there for 8 hours a day 5 days a week, in a chair verifying every signature. He learnt something……
Don’t fuck with a DCM’s airplane…..

I knew a cool officer once. 2nd lt Lynn. Cute little blond number fresh out of college and OCS. Liked hanging out in the 3rd floor day room and various other rooms of the enlisted barracks. Met a couple of really knowledgeable warrant officers. As for the commissioned officers I served under, bah, give me a good E-6.

I take that back. When I was in Korea I worked in a signal unit at Yongsan. I was between an E-1 and E-3, A couple of times I had to go fix this full bird's encrypted messaging card over in what we called the White House. It was the command HQ for the armed forces in Korea. One day I was in his office and mentioned I was about to PCS back stateside. He asked what award I was getting. I laughed knowing that in the last year I had accumulated a company grade and field grade Article 15. I told him about it. He sat for a minute and asked me what I did. I told him one was for drinking underage, the other was for drinking and fighting. He started laughing and asked if it was on duty, no sir, on the town. He stood up and said "Sounds like a damn fine soldier to me, drinking, fighting and fucking should be a core Army value. 😅. When PCS ceremony time came around I could see the faces of my chain of command when they announced I received an Army Commendation Medal. That full bird put me in for an award and there wasn't shit my company first sergeant or captain could do about it. 😅.

...and that's part of the tale - as you move along in the ranks and are a leader, O or NCO, you can spot the chickshit O's and NCO's and do something about it.

Our AF pilots were only allowed to do what was spelled out in the Dash-1 and other manuals - about 2' thick.
Navy and Marine pilots were not allowed to do what was spelled out, everything else was fair game as long as you didn't bend the bird. About 4" thick.
