Where does the time go?

Yesterday was 30 years since my dad died. I had just turned 30 so now I've had as much time with out him as with him. The morning he died I was muzzleloader hunting so it was appropriate that I was hunting yesterday.

If you still have your dad be sure to enjoy the time you have with him. If you're like me cherish the memories you have.

Dad is on the right with the buck. First year of deer hunting in this part of the state.

Thanks for sharing. I lost my dad much too young as well, 3 years ago. Hug your old man if you still have one....and if he is, truly an old man, consider yourself blessed. Too many people never get to experience a full life, grandkids etc.

Will be 2 yrs in February since my dad passed..was glad to have him around all those years. But yes time goes by quick.

@Ohiosam.... Yes time does fly by... Sounds like you lost your Dad about the same time I lost mine... 1992... I got him started late into turkey hunting, but boy did he love it.. He was on his dying bed and he asked me if I picked up his turkey permit... Yes, for those that still have their Dads, make the most of the comming years, cause who knows when these precious years could end... Here's a pic of one of my Dad's spring gobblers...

While we're talking Dads.... My Dad was a big trapper... Here's a couple pics of him with some of his catch... My Mom had a full length fox coat made from foxes he caught a long with a fox that went around your neck...

Honestly, some things happen in life that makes most other things seem trivial. Watching your dad pass can be one of those things. I've found myself the past 3 years hunting a lot less and just wanting to spend more time with my family. Killing a buck every year and all the things that come with it suddenly seemed much less important then spending time with those I love.

Same here.

I recall how I felt when he handed over to me 250 foothold traps and 30 stretcher boards when I was like just 8yrs old, right after he got home from work late one evening as a railroad engineer for Conrail. I felt extremely blessed and completely surprised as well.
I had to learn on my own though through all the trails and tribulations. I eventually got real good at and made some good money too. The ol-man was always too busy with the railroad back in the day but, he always made up for lost time with surprises such as the one I just shared with you.

Definitely brought up a ton of past wonderful memories of my ol-man too. He's the one that deserves all the credit of who and what I am today, especially as a father myself.

Zero regrets. Spent plenty of time with my Dad. Don't understand why God took him 5 1/2 years ago at 70. I am thankful for the time we had and the memories we made. Sure do miss him though. Excellent post @Ohiosam . Truer words have never been spoken.

Someone told me once. "You don't have the time you think you have". I'm 42 and that has really started to resonate with me the last year or so. In 18 years I'll be 60. That may seem like a long time to some, but my oldest is now 6 and it seems like it was just yesterday I was changing diapers. That 18 years will go by in the blink of an eye, and theres no guarantee that I'll even get that. I'm fortunate in that both my parents and Jessica's dad are still alive. But they're up there in years and in that next 18 we will likely see all of their passings.

I was talking to my dad the other day about projects and things around his place. At the end of the conversation, he just laughed and said " I would need another whole lifetime to do all that crap"

my dad always says “well I won’t be around to see this or that but I want you kids to be set” whatever it is about, always looking out for us. Always hits me when I realize when my son is my age, my dad don’t be here anymore. Seems unfathomable yet so deeply real.

My wife and I have both of our parents. They're all post 75. I fear the inevitable future.

I am very fortunate to still have my parents. My dad has slowed a lot in recent years and it's hard for me to accept he's not the invincible man he used to be. Mom is really declining and has been in the hospital the last 9 days.
