I’ve got 8 golden buff hens that just starting laying about a week ago. Now we’ve got eggs coming out of our ears and dumbass me is thinking “I need more chickens!” Lol. My neighbor buddy has a bunch of birds, and an incubator… I think we’re going to hatch a batch together this spring. I’ll also have another round of broilers going this spring, I think.

I haven’t had our birds outside yet, but I plan to do that when the weather straightens up. I have 2 very good bird dogs that are likely going to give the chickens some trouble. One (the younger one) is going to be less likely to kill them than my older dog. If it does happen, my approach will be simple… tie said dead chicken around the dog’s collar and let her wear it for 3 or 4 days. I’m fairly confident that will cure the problem. Lol

You can also hold the guilty party by the collar with your left hand, then grab the dead chicken by both feet with your right hand, then proceed to flog said dog with said chicken like you're throwing haymakers in a title fight. Not that I've done that, but I've got a brown dog that's scared to death of zombie chickens 😂

I did that with my dogs if they shit in the house. Bag it, tie it on their collar and let them outside. I had a bell and would come to the door, ring it and yell shame. You should know what thats from. Lmao!

Did that exact trick a couple weeks ago… but instead of flogging with a dead chicken I was swinging the kitchen trash can. 😂

Did that with a coon dog once with a tree leash after he treed in a hole. His collar in my left hand, tree leash in my right, just windmilling. We spun round and round for a few seconds as I gave him the what for. He got tired of it and got a big ole mouth full of my left ass cheek!. Luckily I had on brush bibs so his teeth didn't penetrate but my ass was literally in a vice. I went from whipping him for undesired behavior, to whipping him trying to get that damn walker dog to turn me loose! I proceed to whip faster and he doubled down with chewing. I eventually turned him loose and never beat on that dog again. :ROFLMAO:

Said dog may not relate the trash can to a chicken much..... ( would have probly paid to see such a thing though :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: )
😂 No… but I bet she related that trash can hitting her at 90 mph to the fun she had digging through the trash 5 minutes before. Lol

Welp… so much for incubating. I couldn’t help myself. I put in an order for 30 more Golden Buffs, to be delivered by the end of February. We are starting a small poultry business. I have the space and the resources. And some quick market research is telling me I also have the demand… at least for now. At the very least, my growing farming hobby will be self-sufficient and my kids will learn the value of work. Plenty to gain, nothing to lose.

I highly recommend these folks. Easy ordering and so long as the breed you want is in the hatch queue, you can pick your delivery. I've order from them 4 times. They always send extra and mortalities in transit have been minimal.

Based on some online recommendations that I found, I bought my chicks from Myers Poultry. Their pricing and availability was about as good as I could find. I opted for another round of Golden Buffs (Red Sex Link). One nice thing about this breed is they can be sexed at hatching, so I was able to order all hens. A little more expensive than straight run, but hens tend to lay more eggs than roosters. Lol

Also, Myers Poultry and Meyer Hatchery are two different vendors. My previous batch of birds, all from Meyer Hatchery in Polk Ohio, have been great but again these other birds from Myers are a better price.
