Shed hunting is stupid. I’m not a fan. But I do like to scout this time of year…I’ve been scouting a day or two and Mason was home Monday so we went out to listen to turkeys… but we were out doing important stuff, not shed hunting.

I've not done any good either this year but I haven't gave it the effort I normally do either. Been walking a lot of public land trying to find some new turkey spots. Had a good day on Tuesday and going again in the morning. I do plan on shed hunting in Warren county this weekend hitting my good spots here but I'm not expecting much

I'm not going to lie, I've found two old sheds and about 10 dead bucks. I've not found a single fresh shed yet this season. Can't find them if they all died in September. This is an abnormality for me.
I am avoiding the woods and fields. Might even skip mushroom hunting. Depressing to walk around in nature right now around here.

Theres still alot to enjoy out in the woods. Relying on deer for happiness would certainly lead to disappointment around here but the woods still has life all around and is beautiful. Been going out and listening to woodcock every evening that I can.

Found two more, a nice freshy and an old squirrels chew toy. Here’s #’s 9 and 10.

Walked some public today for the first time. Found tons of trash but no sheds. On way home saw 140ish 20” wide buck walking into someone’s yard from wooded hillside about 60 yards from road. I guess many are still carrying but greenup is kicking it into high gear! Honeysuckle is off the charts right now!🙄😕

Yes it is. Interestingly though this shed has a strong deer musky odor to it. It’s odd how some smell and some don’t or have very little odor. I’m wondering if that’s the reason why some get gnawed on or carried off and some don’t. I’ve picked up many year old sheds with little to no gnawing or teeth marks and I’ve picked up some that have been down for days with considerable gnawing. The odor to this shed is very strong and kinda resembles the musky forehead scent bucks rub onto overhanging scrape limbs. There was just a very small gnaw mark on the beam tip and I’m very sure this thing dropped within a few days. The teeth marks are ultra small like they came from a small mouse or vole. Of course locations where they are dropped has a huge bearing as well. Some areas just don’t have as many squirrels or other gnawers as others.
