Atta boy fireballer!

Things kick off this afternoon for Ty, 12U, little workout/practice today to let coaches pick their teams. Numbers aren't bad between tball-14U, but travel baseball has sucked up 3-4 teams worth of players from just 10U-14U. Would be fun to see all the kids stay together, but understand that travel ball produces a better player for most. For the sake of the Edison "teams", I just wish they wouldn't be allowed. Varsity Blues was a movie that hit in prime of my HS years, and there was 6-7 of us that always played sports together growing up. We were the closest on the football team, can you imagine if you could hold 10-15together thru the years for any sport?!?

Travel ball is the devil, imo. Parents are delusional that if they get their kid involved in it they will develop the next Brice Harper. What usually happens is the kid maintains a ridiculous baseball schedule until they develop a hatred for the game.
Adam, to me there is nothing better than 12u baseball. The game is fast. Kids have developed skills and they are still playing on a short field. When they move to 60’ mound and 90’ bases, the game slows to an almost intolerable pace…. Enjoy it now! This year is the good old days! There is just nothing better than having a kid throwing in the 60s from 45’ and kids that can hit those pitches battling it out.

Appreciate the thoughts and insights Brock! This is his year to move up to 12U, so being a rookie Im trying to drive home just go have fun and learn. I enjoyed coaching last year, but look forward to being a fan and supporting as dad at home.

Myles is signed up for soccer.

Wyatt is on year 2 in 8U coaches pitch. Will be interesting to see if he sticks with it thru the years.

Looks like our 12u is 50' pitching and 70' bases. Ty said he made very few over the plate, so I had to look it up😄.

I haven’t kept up with this…

in summary, Mason was being over utilized all season. He’s been throwing on three days up until last week when he finally told coach he was done until he got some rest. Kid has never complained about throwing too much but he’s never been asked to throw so often either. He has the most innings pitched in their conference. He’s had over a weeks rest now and is scheduled to throw tomorrow. He threw a bullpen last night and said he felt really strong so hopefully he will have a great game tomorrow.

I was a little shocked when he told me they had 2 games Saturday but he wasn't playing. He sounded so happy about it that it threw me off enough that I didn't press. Lol

He pitched Wednesday and the Sunday prior. Then they had him scheduled to throw Saturday and again Tuesday. They were supposed to play a really good team Tuesday and he wanted to do well and knew he wouldn’t be his best as much as he’s been throwing. They were half way to Cleveland Tuesday when the game was canceled. So now he’s throwing tomorrow. I don’t know who they play but they are playing at Wright State.

Firelands interleague baseball league, all the local school districts are represented. Umps are certified high school, college, and adults. We are Edison Youth Sports (Milan Edison school district), which is made up of baseball, softball, basketball and soccer seasons.

It's different than the VFW league that I grew up playing. It was one league made up of all the kids from the local school districts, then the teams were made.

Grey's team had his first game last night against a pretty decent team. It's their first season in Junior Pony. Our team won 6-2. Grey caught most of the game and did damn good back there for his pitchers. He played a couple innings at 2B with no action. He continues to baffle me at the plate. His first 2 at bats were against less than great pitchers. They were mirror at bats. Fouls off shitty pitches and takes a couple. Gets to a full count and watches perfect batting practice pitches for called strike 3. Third at bat is against a kid who looked like Mitch Williams Jr. Mullett and all. Kid had legit speed and control. Mowed down the first 8 batters. Greyson takes first pitch for a ball then rips the 2nd pitch to the SS. Kid knocked it down and gunned him down by a fraction. First game, lots to improve on

Little update. They won 16-12 Friday night. Greyson pitched 3 innings. Struck out 7, walked 6, and gave up a grand slam home run over some fencing they erected in the outfield. They threw the ball around quite a bit but they showed up at the plate. Greyson went 1/2 with 2 bases loaded walks. He had 3 rbi's and 2 runs scored. He played great at 2nd base.

Similar game tonight. They threw the ball around alot. Led 6-0 through 3 but found themselves down 11-8 after 5. Got a walkoff win bottom of 6th. Greyson caught and played 2nd. Had a great game at the plate. He hit the hell out of the ball. Went 2/4. His 2 hardest hits were outs. Finished with 2 rbi's

Well, no way I'll be able to keep up on this thread. With 2 in ball and 1 in soccer, it's nonstop Mon-Sat.

The gist of it so far:
- Wyatt is in his 2nd year of 8u, coach's pitch. He's got a good arm, understands the basic game, and can put the bat on the ball. He's one of the younger ones so he's in the outfield and in the bottom 1/3 of the line up. They fall in the middle talent wise so far, so He's got to experience getting run ruled and run ruling others.

-Ty is in his 1st year of 12u. They are a very young team and have been getting stomped. It is a character building year, and they are all getting a chance to build. He has rotated as starting pitcher, catching, and SS. Ive been working with him on his stretch and getting used to runners on base. It is hilarious how distracted he gets when there's a runner on base. He's been taken to the yard a few times, with 1 game giving up a solo shot, followed up by a grandslam just 4 batters later. He's been the lead off man batting all year and has been the most consistent in the line up, just have to get hits deeper in the lineup to get runners home!
