Yes sir! Normally “big” swimbaits aren’t my thing but they’ve been working so may need to switch up the mindset. Jerkbaits on the other hand, definitely in my top 3 favorite techniques.
Friend of mine is throwing some swim baits that reminds me of musky baits not bass baits! He has great luck with them also!

Spent a couple days on St. Clair. For sure my favorite fishery. Average size of fish seemed to be smaller than what it was in the past- 3.5-4lbs, now closer to 2.5-3lbs. But I won’t complain, nearly nonstop action on quality fish is incredible. Between my buddy and I on day one, we likely boated 80-90 fish maybe more, I also lost an easy 50”+ muskie on a crank bait (can’t believe a 7’ Medium rod with 10lb mono wasn’t up to snuff(also had the GoPro rolling so I at least got it all on video)). Day two I went up with a different buddy, he caught a 20” muskie on his first cast, and only half a dozen-ish smallmouth. According to his fish counter I landed 33 smallies in only a few hours of fishing. Day 1 biggest fish was 4.5lbs, day 2 biggest fish was 5.5lbs. Hoping to make it back up there a handful more times this spring/ early summer before the smallies disperse.

Sunrise to about 8am we did best in 7-8.5 FOW, once the sun got higher 8.5-9.5 was the ticket.

Just can’t get enough of my favorite fish and lake, plus I needed a recent report for J’s September trip Threw some 6” swimbaits for shits n gigs, caught a handful of decent smallies on that, had one musky follow it to the boat, and close to 50-60 fish on the jerkbait. Not bad for a half day rip.

My BIL and his son love it up there and slay them football sized smallies like you guys are every year around this time. They went up this week and might still be up there. I’ll share pics when they get back. I shared a trip they went on 6-10 years ago when they floated up to and met Mark Zona and the owner of Shimano fishing together and Mark handed them hand fulls of fishing tackle. Pretty cool trip for sure!

It was extremely foggy and David’s son Brandon saw way off in the distance one boat in the dense heavy fog. Brandon told his dad, wouldn’t that be crazy if that was Mark? David said, as big as this lake is no way, what would be the odds?!?! Sure as shit, as they drifted closer Brandon said, Dad!!!! I see Z-Train written on the side!!!! Lol
They met him a month or so earlier than this at the Bass pro in Fairfield at a met and greet and knew he loved fishing LSC and David’s wife shared some pics of fish the two have caught on Marks FB page. During the above encounter Mark found out it was their fish shared on his FB page. Lol
David wish he would have thought to show Marks friend the 35 year old Shimano rod/reel combo he still fishes with but being so in awe of the meeting he forgot. Lol
