Real neat technology! Wish I could use one at our place, however I suspect that would not be a good thing to do living at the end of airport flightline. I suppose in my case, I'd have to go old school, go jump inside a plane with a camera in hand, then go buzz our place a few times.

Wouldn't have thermal capability or 200x zoom then either!

I've got a decent thermal that can go up with me and an old 35mm with a couple different extended zoom lenses, but yeah you're right, the drones make it easier I'm sure. Trust me, I have no plans on taking any flight anytime soon even though I've been asked by the neighbor several times to go up with him. He's an old timer that still flies today. I may take him up one of these days if I feel like living dangerously again

If you’re talking about the Ross Co airport you can most certainly fly a drone over your place. It’s uncontrolled airspace with the exception being right over the runway.

From what I was told by airport officials and read at one point a while back, we can't. We are in the restricted zone. I remember a while back (two years ago) reading all the particulars about it [airport airspace regulations] but do not recall the exact verbiage right off hand. I'll have to look it up again.

I believe it would be too much of a risk, too dangerous to even consider if I was allowed to fly a drone at our place. Perhaps outside the restricted zone would be okay perhaps, but I certainly would not even consider flying one on or near our home because of the air traffic, including larjets. All the planes coming and going fly within feet of our trees, and we have trees that are well over 100' tall that many of the planes seem to just buzz/clear.

I'll always play it safe and never ever consider attempting to fly anything above our trees. It's just too risky!

One more bit of information, that I'm pretty sure I shared before on here.

I can't even build a permanent home on our property because of the airport restricted zone we live in. Nothing over two stories can be built and everything needs to be able to move, buildings including. We have the original deed to the property, which is before the airport was built. We are the thorn in their butts. The airport bought many of the old neighbors out and only a few original property owners remain nextdoor to the airport.. So, I can't see how the airport would allow me to fly a drone directly in the path of the runway. I tend to believe if I were to do such a thing, I'd have the authorities at my place right away.

Brush Creek and Buckeye MOA's apply in the areas marked. Buckeye MOA is adjacent to runway 23. MOA = Military Operations Area.

The MOA is above 100 ft AGL, so you may not even encroach on it if you are doing low-level video. But, in any case, VFR flights (and by extension sUAS operations) are not actually prohibited in an MOA, notwithstanding the request on the sectional, and this is Class G airspace below 700 ft.

Just to clarify, LAANC is for authorization to fly in controlled airspace, not special use airspace. This is FAA passage to LAANC . The owners of Ross A/P don't control it.

For lots of years when we tested the our "payloads" on special operations UAS's on and around Eglin reservation we'd have to get all kinds of approvals and such with the local airspace outside the specified military ranges. All of this went into the spins and ACO's, just saw the thread and adding my $.02 on airspace control which was a huge part of the JTAC area I worked in while in TACP.

Appreciate the info @Stressless , thanks!

Another fairly recent story.

Our next door neighbor had a beautiful two story pole barn, outfitted with heat, electric and water. Within a month of completion, the airport had them remove the building. The neighbor lost out on a bunch of money.

Regardless if I was legally allowed or not to fly a drone at our place, I just would not do it because of the air traffic we encounter. The planes are much lower than seven hundred feet during the approach and take offs. We feel safe with most of the non commercial type planes flying over, but those faster, bigger ones do get us a little nervous sometimes because they are moving at high rates of speed. You never hear them coming because they are on top us before you hear the sound quite often.

We've had the airport people out last year surveying the property, and they were unannounced or unexpected. We do pay attention to everything the airport wishes to do, by either attending the meetings or reading the transcripts online. We try to be a good neighbor and all we care to do is build a home on the place and they are fighting us with everything they got. They appealed our last win, and put forth nearly every restriction as before with us. We can still build, but with serious restrictions. Our property is in the direct path of the runway, just within 1,300'. The airport has become much busier over recent years, especially with the larger planes, including military. We have a 500' controlled airspace restriction and I will try to locate that specific information. I'll follow up once I find it.

So, the moral of all of this, for me anyhow, is I just would not fly anything that a plane would potentially fly into and I do believe that any drone operated on our property no matter where or how high would bring on attention that I would not want otherwise. I'll play it safe.

Dustin, yep MOA is also an acronym is basic shooting, 1 MOA spreads about 1″ per 100 yards. (actually 1.047″) In this case the MOA on the aerial chart above with Ross A/P air control refers to a Military Operating Area = almost always for training.

Good One @Big_Holla 👌

I may not know as much as some people, but I do know that I am looking forward to the leaves falling off. I think it will be really interesting to see the predator vs prey numbers. This will be a grew tool for really seeing exactly what the land is holding. For years deer have been getting the blame for crop damage. Coyotes have been getting blame for low reproduction numbers. The list goes on and on. These things don't lie and aren't bias in any way. Just real time data.

Have been tinkering with a 3T for the last few months. I've been in the predator thermal game for awhile now and have used my handheld for deer recoveries in the past. It's been fun so far and looking forward to more flight time as the fall and winter months come. It's pretty wild what you can find with the thermal imaging. Nothing can hide

I’m trying to find a decent thermal imaging binocular but they are crazy expensive. The monoculars are a lot cheaper but not what I want. Getting a drone is on my wish list also.
There are a few companies on FB that will have trade ins for sale that are higher quality monoculars but at the lower quality prices with warranties. Binos are really nice but heavy. I like the compact size of the mono's better.

What brand are you using? Denny gave me some suggestions last year but I’m stuck on finding binoculars. May have to settle on a quality mono.
