Has anyone seen the story from the Columbus dispatch with the ODNR? Saying Ohio has to many deer and not enough hunters.

Nope. But that is what they have been saying for 20 years. They are wrong from my perspective. But they will say that my perspective is biased due to me being a dumb hunter and that I want to see deer every time I go hunting.
I wonder if the reason there are less hunters had anything to do with cheap nonresident tags and no drawing for out of state hunters? You know, buy that cheap guaranteed tag, lease a big plot of land, hunt a week or so a year while tying up large chunks of ground that were previously used by many? I’m dumb, admittedly, but it seems from my biased view that one logical step to providing access to the many with no place left to hunt would be to go to a draw system.

What did they used to say when you talked like this? "Why don't you just stick to making pizzas" Seems like I read that about 10-12 years ago and it stuck. Mostly because it pissed me off and I didn't even know you then. Lol
They don't want our opinions, views, or facts. That is why we have zero representation from the biggest, most active ohio outdoor web board. They will go to the cities for the complaints about eating flowers.
Hunter access is the biggest reason some areas do have too many deer and it will never change till that’s addressed. Common sense tells us that just like baiting deer is legal but baiting turkeys is illegal. Stupit shit, it’s not rocket science what’s going on and we’re not morons.
Some private land owners with tons of ground will never allow hunting because they’re ultra anti-hunting/peta nut case types. Some had bad experiences with bad ethical hunter types that ruined it for the next guy. It is what it is.

I'm still trying to wrap my head around how many deer were tagged in Ohio last season when so many southern Ohio hunters struggled to even see deer last year let alone kill a couple
These threads are all too common on outdoor sites. Most of us agree on principle. Where we differ is who is willing to speak up about it? Me personally I have went that road and quit caring. I hope we kill them all at this point. As hunters we get the representation that we allow and deserve. This is why I appreciate fishing more and more each year.
IMO unforseen consequences of the electronic tagging. Everyone was worried that Joe slob hunter wasn't going to tag his deer and poach easier. But now we have no way to verify the .gov numbers either.
It is hard to speak up when you aren't heard. When you pay for the resource and have no voice. I also have been to the summits. Very small crowds in those. But every voice was hushed or blown off. All very frustrating.
Apathy is never a good look.
Talk to @Gern186 about the commercial perch nets and how that may affect the big lake up north....

Agreed, the summits are just so they can say can say they took our opinions and that we have a say. But in reality you're right they are just echoing the company line.
Kinda like the supposed 81 million votes a certain president apparently received but I don't know 5 people that voted for him.
Or when you're threatened with legal action if you continue to allow certain opinions to be voiced. Opinions that are clearly true based on their need to threaten legal action............
They don't care about us. We are tools and cash cows. Standard politicians living off the people while lying to the general public.
Been there done that. I've spoke for myself and several others as well. I've attended the meetings when nobody else was there. It seemed like I was the only person in the state that had an issue and I looked like an asshole. I've taken the active route and this is where it has lead me. Im open if anyone else has suggestions that would be effective.

I was told if you aren’t seeing many, don’t shoot em. Seemed reasonable. But that also puts the management aspect squarely in my court. With that perspective, I have no idea why I would have any use for the DoW… and so I don’t. Their input has zero effect on what I choose to shoot or not shoot in a given year. None. That is the respect they have earned from me in the last 25 years. Prior to that I held the DoW in high esteem. Maybe that was my own naïveté, or perhaps they actually did a good job.
Too many deer and not enough hunters? That is one of the dumbest things I've ever heard. That sounds like the money of the Farm Bureau and insurance lobby talking to me. I freely admit that I don't give one fuck what the ODNR says or does with respect to our deer heard anymore, and have not for 30 years. I'm going to keep on hunting because I am a hunter and that is what I do. They are going to do as they see fit managing the deer heard and obviously have no interest in what hunters have to say about it good, bad or indifferent.

Dealing with deer: Engaging youth, changing kill limits and allowing crossbows are some of the actions by states to increase deer hunting.
The widespread mass EHD kill wasn't enough for these guys.
