Hard to decipher through all the pages. Thinking it is time for a Super duty specific thread. Maybe I'm just being lazy and not wanting to dig thru all the pages.

I'm shopping. Selling my F150. Buying a replacement which will be a daily driver and replace my crew cab dually. Seriously looking at F250/F350 gassers. My FN150 is a nice truck but thirsty at the pumps. My dually doesn't get driven much. It pulls an enclosed trailer, pushes snow, and maybe 12-15 times per year pulls a skid loader around town.

If I find a deal on the 7.3L gas engine I won't turn it down. The 6.2L seems solid with not a ton of issues from what I'm hearing. So so maybe a little better than expected fuel mileage for a truck of this size. I'm seeing a 6.8L now as well. Looks like a 7.3L with shortened stroke. Supposed to be a little better on fuel. Allegedly e85 friendly but I don't know that I would run it. I don't hear good things about the Super Duty trucks liking the low end fuel.

Any firsthand input on the 6.8L? Fuel mileage averages on those of you with the 6.2L engines? Any issues? Pricing on used trucks has me considering brand new. That is something I never thought I would say. Thanks in advance.

If you think your 150 is thristy at the pumps then why look at a gasser at all? Other than the maintenance the diesel is the better of the two cost wise. They get about the same MPG but once you hook to a trailer you will see your gasser drop alot and there will be no power. Anyhow that's my 2 cents on it

Diesel cost more than gas. My diesel gets 10mpg towing. Diesel is a $12000 option. Maintenance is higher. Breakdowns are more costly. I still don't trust the emissions on the new diesels. I know too many people who have had issues. My FN150 does 12-13 around town. 15-16.5 hwy. If I sell two trucks, reduce maintenance, license plate, and insurance costs. . . I don't care if my mileage drops a little. From what I'm reading i am not sure it will drop that much. I drive like a grandpa if I'm not on the race track. Going from 12-13 down to 10-12 isn't hateful.

Yep, it is very hard to justify owning a diesel anymore if you're not pulling multiple times a week. As Phil said, the upfront cost + extra yearly maintenance costs = alot of extra gas for the difference in mpg. Wasn't long ago you could get 20mpg and 17 towning....not any more, unless you spend thousands to delete or buy programmers.

Phil, I am not aware of anything wrong with either of the current gasser that Ford produces. I think the biggest thing will be if you want a SFA and are good with the interior layout.

I'm sure a very box salt spreader in the back would be good for the battery. Maybe I could carry a generator to charge it while it is pulling a 24-36hr shift? Good thing those batteries last longer in the cold. 🤪 Thanks for the thought, but that isn't even on my wish list as a novelty item.

@5Cent SFA being solid front axle? Yes. For the vee plows it rules out the GM trucks. Guys do it. Not me. I don't care about ride. It's a truck.

My service truck for the gravel pit is a 2015 f250 with the 6.2. It's a sled and gets 10 mpg, now that being said it is loaded with tools and a compressor but not overloaded. It drives horrible have had the front end rebuilt twice and it is still all over the road like something is out of the front end.

Good to know. Big v-plow up front won't make the front end last longer. 10mpg is solid for a loaded up work truck. I should do a touch better as a driver. Plowing I don't expect great mileage. Towing 8-10mpg wouldn't hurt my feelings. Had another guy message today. Sent a pic of 10.2mpg average. Truck runs all day. 12-14hrs. That impressed me.

Looked at a 2021 F350 at Auto Palace on the West side of Columbus. Frame was filled up half way dirt/sand/silt. Engine light on. Engine compartment caked in mud. Open the door and the door seams had mud seeping down from them due to all the recent rains and moisture. It was clearly a flood vehicle. 20-25k miles priced at $46k was close enough in price to look at. I was going to be in the area anyway. Had I driven there ONLY to look at the truck . . . I am pretty sure I would have flipped out on the dude. Their ad has nice pics and says "It's as clean as it looks in the pictures." I have a pair of 2004 F250s with plows on them. They are never detailed. Only washed after snows to get the salt off. They are much cleaner in the engine compartment than this truck. People suck.

I hope nobody buys it sight unseen and has it shipped to them. Or if they are just an uninformed buyer like a young kid or something. It is clearly a misrepresented truck. If this is what $46k buys them I'll buy a brand new or left over 2023 XL package for $53-58k.

Was a carfax available on it? I believe that would have shown water damage of salvage vehicle.

I drove 4 hours to look at a truck that they claimed to be as clean as the pictures. It was a p.o.s. I even drug the wife and kids with me I was pissed to say the least. The dealer just laughed and said don't worry it'll sell before you make it back to Ohio. He was almost right it sold within 3 hours . It's hard to find an honest used truck and even harder to find an honest seller or dealer. It'll fall into your lap when you least expect it , just sucks vehicle shopping used to be fun ...

The kid said "we always recommend to have a third party inspect a used vehicle." I told him I'd send him a bill. I had just inspected it. I didn't need a mechanic to point out obvious issues.

It is in cars.com and car gurus. No Carfax showing. Shows clean title. There was a report for $20 on one of them.

I believe they're usually reported by insurance companies if there's a claim and its totaled out. Or if a salvage company recovers it and auctions it. If no claim was made then it likely wouldn't be reported.

I have been in multiple 6.2 trucks as company trucks. They are pretty damn solid. They tick and clatter once miles go up but they keep going. We are not nice to them. My last truck was taken from me at 285,000 miles and 15,000 hours. It is now the shop truck and still going.

The front end issues is well documented. Search death wobble. I've owned multiple personal use and multiple company, never had the issue. Never known anyone to have it either.

Good luck on finding the right truck. Lots of junk out there. I think you are on the right path for your needs/wants. If you can afford the 7.3...

Listed my F150 today. Still window shopping. I'm weighing out all options. I haven't heard anything that is steering me away from the Superduty trucks. I'd take a 6.2 with 6sp. I'd prefer 6.2 with the 10sp trans. 7.3 with 10sp would be most preferred. Not sure I can justify the cost "at the moment." I'm considering buying something cheaper and handing it down to the mowing crew in 2-3 years. At that point maybe a little newer/lower mile/nicer truck for me will happen.

Shopping used has me scratching my head. Some trucks sell in a day which might be a little older or higher miles. Another looks clean, newer, lower miles for not a lot more and they sit on the dealers lot for 9mo. Doesn't makes sense. 3 year old XLT with 20-40k miles might be $45-50k. Left over brand new 2023 XL packages I've seen under $50k. Not as nice as the XLT but there are some XL trucks with appearance packages or the STX package that are really nice trucks. I'll keep weighing options and monitoring the market. Make the choice that makes the most financial sense.

Have you tried looking at fleet trucks? I am not sure on the price of them or how that side works.
I'm watching a few on Ritchie Bros auctions. Usually have fleet truck auctions a few times a year at big auction houses. Need a dealer to go there and get you in.

Sold my F150.

Messages a Ford dealer about a specific truck in their lot. Return phone call said they don't have that truck and don't know why it is still listed (211 days). Asked if I wanted a 4x2 they have. Classic bait and switch. Next. I'll likely never look at a truck they have listed again.

At this point I am not ruling out anything. Everything I have read here or heard from people with these trucks has solidified my choice on another Super Duty. Struggle to swallow the $50+k pill on a new one but it is an option I haven't removed from the table. A 2015-2016 model with 100k miles for $20-25k isn't off the table either. Just need to keep shipping I guess. Find the happy medium. The happy medium may end up being my first new truck. Time will tell. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Send it! Spend that moldy money you cheap bastard! They are actually coming down in price for used. Dealers aren't marked up over MSRP anymore either. Not for base models anyways. Lots are full of used and new trucks so the market is in your favor for the first time in a few years. Shop away! You aren't in a time of settling. I'll keep sawing at that fence post tho.
