Sold my F150.

Messages a Ford dealer about a specific truck in their lot. Return phone call said they don't have that truck and don't know why it is still listed (211 days). Asked if I wanted a 4x2 they have. Classic bait and switch. Next. I'll likely never look at a truck they have listed again.

At this point I am not ruling out anything. Everything I have read here or heard from people with these trucks has solidified my choice on another Super Duty. Struggle to swallow the $50+k pill on a new one but it is an option I haven't removed from the table. A 2015-2016 model with 100k miles for $20-25k isn't off the table either. Just need to keep shipping I guess. Find the happy medium. The happy medium may end up being my first new truck. Time will tell. 🤷🏻‍♂️

0/3 guys. Not buying a 13 year old diesel with emissions stuff on it. Never seen a Tundra that will do what I need it to do. I'm surely not dropping $60k on a 19 year old truck. 🤣

Thanks for sharing. I did manage to have another dealership write my name and number down today. Failed to return my call. I walked into their office at 455pm. Stood there ignored until he walked over to tell me to leave because they were closing. I replied "Thanks buddy. Drove two hours to get ignored and pushed out your door. Guess that truck can sit on your lot 3 more months." I realize they were close to closing time. He could have answered a few questions and set up an appointment for Monday and I would have been satisfied. He chose poorly. Screw them. Two dealers in two cities today that I'll never do business with. Why are these dealers turning me into an asshole?

You know I'm a sucker for reds. 🤣 That is a sharp truck. Sort of looking for snow plow prep/camper package with bigger alternator. YOU said I should get what I want.

Today my wife said "Just buy a new truck. You deserve it." Umm. . . .Is this a trick? She followed it up with "I'm thankful you put so much thought into big purchases and saving money. But then i watch you blow money on smaller stuff like arrows without questioning it." I feel like this is a trap. I wasn't sure how to respond. Lol

Just in case I haven't said it lately: First world problems.

It is the new world. I would think on $35-60k vehicles you would still see service. Nope. Same shit service you get at the fast food joint. Just cost you more.

Honestly, you have patched together junk for as long as I've known you. If your business has grown to a point to afford this, I agree that you deserve it. It might help relieve some stress having one truck you know you can count on. Might also help gain some more work when they see a reliable truck pull up to give estimates. There is a big difference between an owner showing up in a new work truck and not a new lifted platinum. Also a big difference than the owner showing up in a 20 year old truck.

Poor farmers...and Phil
No. Patched together 20yr old trucks because that is what the budget allows. It doesn't allow the Shelby truck. I'm not sure it allows a brand new truck. And I'm not worried about what it looks like pulling up to a job. If anything, a $50k truck says "This guy is over charging us to do the work."

How do you buy a $50k truck when people flip their lid when you tell them you've got a $50 minimum? This is an entirely different thread. Lol. Don't bat an eye at the $100 starting point for a plumber or HVAC guy, but call the lawn guy a thief over $40-50. You're going to need to trust me here. . . There is no moldy money in today's world of Bidenomics, inflation, no snow winters, and COVID premium prices just to survive. I spent the last $25 of it buying Arby's for the wife and myself.

Even before I ran my own business, I never looked at a contractor in a nice truck that way. My opinion was, and still is, if a contractor is driving a nice truck, he must be doing something right. Even if he is overcharging, someone is paying it… meaning the quality of his work is worth it.

There are always exceptions to the rule, of course. I’m still driving a 2012 rusted out f-150. 🤣

So last night I drove a 2024 F250 XLT Supercab long bed 4x4 7.3L Godzilla 10sp. It was nice. Beautiful truck. Iconic silver color. Just sharp. I didn't care for it. Ride, comfort, power and all that was great. It was the steering wheel that had half a keyboard on it in buttons. It was all the electronic gadgets. Just isn't me. I could see me with plow control in right hand, steering left handed and bumping every button on there. I'd have radio stations changing, making phone calls, adjusting mirrors along with the positioning of satellites, ordering a mail order bride by accident, and maybe even bumping the eject button.

And then there is the price. I'm not doing it. Not stretching myself to make a second house payment for a truck. Not in my comfort zone. I'm going to go back to looking at stripped down trucks with lower miles and under $40k. I sort of have always enjoyed dressing up a plain Jane truck to my own liking. Maybe I'll add the XLT chrome grill and rims to an XL or something. Add some personal touches like strobe lights for plowing or a diesel tank to fuel equipment. Maybe I'll yank the factory bed off and put a flat bed in it before it needs one. That is more my flavor. Practical is where I am and it suits my budget better.

For what it's worth: been following along with some channels and watching guys with 7.3L trucks. The one guy was getting 17mpg interstate driving at 70mph empty. Also averaged 12.6mph with 1800 miles hauling a 12,500# fifth wheel. Or 12.5 or 12.8 or somewhere in there. Don't quote me on the exact. Either way I was impressed. Also crew cab long bed 4wd.
