    Hard truths

@giles I can wholeheartedly say that Dan Cabela is the real deal. I was fortunate to sit down and have some conversations with him a few times while working at the Sportsmen's Alliance. He obviously comes from means beyond what we're familiar with, but he's a down-to-earth conservationist at the...

    LIVE from the stand 2025-26

Saw a doe and her two yearlings and forky buck. No shots given so no shots taken. My toes got a little tingly toward the end but feeling is returned now. 😁

    The Exercise Thread

I was just taking off my Muck boots when my left calf cramped. With the boot gripping my foot, and the muscle seized up, I dropped into a plank position to try and stretch it out. The boot said, “Nope, you can’t do that” as I screamed from the pain and karate-kicked my foot free, Blitz came...

    Quail habitat improvement program

No. Do we think the state really cares about turkey or deer? Are we seeing more turkey or deer. I think we have a thread or two around here documenting those topics.

    College Football Thread

I didn’t stay up and watch the game because I have be up early to work. Instead of turning on espn when I woke up, I turn to the memes to find out who won. The memes did not disappoint. First one I saw…

    Quail habitat improvement program

I see your point, and agree that as a nonprofit, the goal should be to be so successful that you’re no longer needed. I would also say with PF, they’ll never be able to work themselves out of business. The problem is simply too big for just them to solve alone.

    What's For Dinner?

BBQ goose for lunch. I wanted to smoke the breasts first then finish them in the Instapot but it was too cold. 🥶 Still turned out great with the seasoning and sauce, just didn’t have the smokiness I prefer.

    Quail habitat improvement program

The #1 determining factor for anything wildlife-related, but especially for upland species, is habitat. The #2 factor is connection corridors of quality habitat. If you're not connecting habitats, then isolated populations are still at risk, just like the quail OO2 mentioned above. After #1 & 2...

    Pheasants Forever Banquet Season

The benefits of quality pheasant habitat extend so far beyond just pheasants. Starting with what most hunters care about, deer. The bedding and escape cover that grasses and edge habitats provide is phenomenal. I've bumped some really great deer moving through pheasant cover, and some of the...

    Pheasants Forever Banquet Season

PF/QF is one of the few organizations doing a good job stewarding each dollar they receive. Plus, PF’s chapter model keeps the majority of dollars raised in each state within that state. Most other orgs hold fundraisers, raise money, and send it back to HQ to be allocated elsewhere.

    The Exercise Thread

I think the hardest part to all this is the routine. It’s sooo easy to drift away. It will happen and has happened to every single person here. The most important thing is just developing that routine and the discipline. It’s really simple, but really difficult at the same time.

    The Exercise Thread

Directly related to taking care of your physical body is taking care mentally and most importantly, spiritually. The three are all connected and I find when I’m working on all three, I’m at my best. If I neglect one or more of the three areas, I come up short. This morning’s podcast was on...
