Fun evening. 3 different bucks. Learned a good bit about their movement in this area, also got a cell cam up to get a better idea of their direction of travel. Looking forward to later this week when I can get back out and cooler temps.

Won’t ramble too much. Doe and her two fawns came in. Decided I wasn’t gonna shoot. Mom got nervous, she blew and got shot. That’s that. Somehow ran 200-225 yds with a broadhead through both lungs and heart.

One deer spooked after I had climbed down and packed all my shit up. Beautiful evening, deer just didn’t cooperate. Planning to hunt a small parcel of private tomorrow afternoon if the wind forecast holds.

Got home from northern MI in time to slip into some public for the last couple hours. Hoping for the wind to continue what it’s doing, and the squirrel hunters stay away. Good luck to anyone else out.

Went up north with my wife and pups for the last few days. I had no plans to fish, but she was adamant that we brought some salmon/steelhead gear. Kings on the beach were fun, had to chase mine up into the river mouth. They’re extra sassy in the lake on light gear. Dogs weren’t impressed 😂

After the squirrel hunters left it was fairly quiet the remainder of the hunt. With 5 minutes to go I started to pack up my camera gear and spooked an unidentified deer. Couldn’t find it in my binos. Packed up and slipped out without bumping any other deer as far as I could tell.

Just got peppered with some 7.5s from a squirrel hunter 150ish yards away. Cant seem to remember why I’m so adamant to hunt public land over the private property I have permission for 😂

Been settled in since 4:45. Wind seems mostly cooperative, a lot of fresh deer sign and acorns raining. Plenty of acorn caps on the ground, hoping it’s from deer and not just the ten million squirrels I’m watching. Setup just on the edge of the oaks between the main oak flat and bedding. Good...
