    .400 Legend versus….

I’ve been putting off the purchase of a straightwall-eating pew pew since they came on the scene, mainly because I have a dedicated slug gun already (Savage 220). However, my son is of the age now to hunt and that 220 is just gonna knock his socks off. Obviously I don’t want a bad experience...

    LIVE from the stand 2024-2025!

Just got settled in for my first sit of the season. Taking advantage of this NNE wind to put in some reconnaissance, and the chance of throwing a doe into the freezer. It feels like a good deer movement kind of night.

    Food, what are you eating?

Just got back from a hunting trip out west. I tried to eat healthy when I could, but it was difficult so I definitely cheated more than I didn’t. Today I’m 6-7 lbs heavier than last week and my gut feels bloated and gassy again for the first time in 4 weeks. It’s a pretty blatant reminder of...

    retirement savings

Faith. To invest is to have faith. If you’re convinced you’re not going to live to “retirement age,” or the world is going to collapse before then, well then spend all your money. But if you have just the slightest bit of faith that neither of those two things happens, you should be investing...

    retirement savings

I only partially agree with this. The problem started (I think) when parents started telling their kids it’s okay to not have a job… that they should “enjoy high school while they can.” This just happened to also coincide with the boom in student loan distribution. The ones with a work ethic...

    Food, what are you eating?

@Jamie do you have a preference regarding tallow vs. lard? I'm assuming it's all about taste/flavor... and I would assume lard has more of a "neutral" taste? Just curious which one you would choose to fry something like freshwater fish or frog legs. Asking for a friend...

    Food, what are you eating?

    I don’t. But maybe Sam’s club instead? I don’t know. I’m a Kerrygold fan so that’s my normal go-to.

    Food, what are you eating?

A few weeks into “clean eating” now myself and so far it’s paying dividends. I’m down about 15 pounds. Mental clarity is very good. And my typical bloated feeling has basically vanished. Just ordered some lard, grass-fed beef tallow, and a bag of Celtic salt. Full speed ahead!

    trash pump vs transfer pump

If that is the case I agree, you’re screwed. I don’t think even a trash pump would handle that material.

    What's For Dinner?

I saw your post on clicked here, hoping to see a plate covered in bluewing teal breasts. *disappointed* Teal in season down there yet? We did good up here but this full moon has most of the remaining birds heading south I think.

    trash pump vs transfer pump

Honestly the hand pump will be your most cost effective option. It does not take long to fill up a bucket with one. Easy, cheap, and very little mess/waste. Those hand pumps handle engine oil and other high viscosity fluids. I think it’d handle your sugar water too just fine. Or is it low...

    Ohio EHD 2024 edition 😞

You, sir, need to do some serious homework before calling folks “idiots.” Dave is talking about EHD… epizootic hemorrhagic disease… not CWD, ya jackwagon. The DNR did not shoot 200 deer at KDP last year. And, ALL of the deer that were culled were butchered by licensed processors, held long...

    trash pump vs transfer pump

Yep, I’d do the hand pump or simply elevate the barrel and dispense it by gravity.

    trash pump vs transfer pump

You mention flow rate but what about total volume? A 2-3” trash pump is overkill for 5-10 total gallons, maybe… but an 18V transfer pump like the Milwaukee may not cut it for 200-300 gallons total. All in all, a trash pump is gonna give you ability to pump “dirty” liquid. A typical transfer...

Venison bacon: anyone here ever tried making it?

I totally agree. A friend of mine makes it fairly regularly. Just like the Bearded Butchers do it. Is it good? Yes. Is it bacon? Not even close. It’s specially seasoned and cured venison, smoked as a loaf, and sliced to simply resemble bacon. It’s bacon-shaped ground jerky is what it is.

    Show them to me!

Actually I was fishing near Lorain. Found a hot bite on jumbos earlier this spring that was kind of short lived. It was worth it though!

    Show them to me!

Thanks Ric. I thought so, too. It’s the happiest I’ve ever been with a mount I’ve gotten back. He’s working on a 14.5” yellow perch for me right now as well. Looking forward to seeing it finished!

    Show them to me!

Got mine back a couple months ago. Guy did a hell of a job on it. It was my first time using the services of this particular taxidermist and I’ll for sure be going back again.
