I did something new (to me)

Licking branch is almost always more important/attractive than the scrape itself… at least, in my experience. Also, another thing I’ve noticed is that a particular location of a mock scrape is absolutely worth making note of. You can employ the exact same tactics, and for some reason or...

    Time for a new laptop

If I were you, I would buy a laptop plus a docking station. The docking station can have 2-3 monitors plugged into it. It basically allows your laptop to function as a “desktop” at the home office, but gives you the ability to unplug one cord and take the laptop into the field when needed...

    Jake Paul vs Mike Tyson

I don’t like this. Tyson has nothing to gain and everything to lose. I would like to see Tyson win, but I’d hate to see his reputation tainted by losing to JP.

    TOO Homesteading

Dang! I haven’t run into that issue yet. Guess I didn’t even really know it was a possibility! I’ll have to stay on my toes, as we are usually eating and selling eggs that are 3+ weeks old. Even though I leave the eggs unwashed, I do refrigerate them as soon as they’re pulled from the boxes...

    Fishers making a comeback

So are there no turkeys remaining in Pennsylvania or Kentucky? Fishers are cool. It’s cool when any extirpated critter makes a comeback.

For Sale - Former Winke Farm

Capitalism, folks. Don’t hate the player, hate the game.

    Binocular magnification

Jamie nailed it. 8x42 has better light gathering potential than 10x42. For sitting in a treestand or turkey hunting, my go-to binos are Vortex Viper HD 8x42’s. If I’m glassing from a truck or my house, 10x or higher. I just don’t like carrying the extra weight when I’m hunting, and the...

    Super duty thread

I may end up retracting my original statement about buying a super duty. The more I look at these HD 2500’s the further I’m leaning that direction.

    Plumbing (kind of?) Issue

Not sure on the extensions but I trust Adam’s recommendation. I’m as big a fan of Sharkbite fittings as the next person, but I would not install them inside a closed wall. They are sensitive to alignment. Enough vibration from water hammer and normal use could potentially misalign them over...

Total Solar Eclipse over Ohio on April 8, 2024

Ahhhh, I was hoping someone would bring up the historical significance of the 1806 eclipse. 👏 @hickslawns whether or not it turns out to be a problematic event affecting travel, food supplies, fuel supplies, etc really doesn’t change or diminish the historical significance of it. There are...

    4H projects

Great work buddy! That’s gonna be awesome. One of these days I’ll have to pick your brain. I’ve already got a couple stalls set up on concrete just for pigs, but I don’t know the first thing about raising them. I would like to, eventually.

Jigging with an Ice Fishing Rod?

It works fine. Most just don’t have the same amount of backbone as a standard size rod (that’s what she said).

    Which one for you?

I like hunting ducks as much as anything and anyone. That said, it’s an easy decision. Gimme that 200 incher.

    Buying a trailer

Aluminum... Buy once, cry once. The steel trailers all rust out eventually. 6x12 is a great size for a single-axle trailer. Not too big, but big enough to be useful.

    Super duty thread

Even before I ran my own business, I never looked at a contractor in a nice truck that way. My opinion was, and still is, if a contractor is driving a nice truck, he must be doing something right. Even if he is overcharging, someone is paying it… meaning the quality of his work is worth it...

    Super duty thread

Buddy at work… he’s got a f250 with the 6.2 gasser. 2022 truck I believe. He gets better fuel mileage than my 2012 5.0 F150. I’ve done made up my mind… My next truck will be either a Super Duty or a Chevy 2500.

    Its coming

Yep, you got that right. I’m sometimes one of those guilty non-locals up at Sag Bay. But I try to be smart about it if I can help it.

    Its coming

Classic problem… Good, fishable ice for a few days with ideal weather conditions. Word gets out, then the out of towners show up to fish. I’d be willing to bet most if not all of those folks getting rescued today traveled here from out of town. Open water in the south passage, a crack that...

    Its coming

Wish I had the time to break away from work right now. I’d be fishing somewhere. 4-7” of good clear ice up here at the moment.

Iowa pheasant leg noodle soup is on the menu for me tonight.
