Skunked this morning except for the one I bumped on the way in. Different stand location tonight.

Thanks for the advice. I'll be out late this week, and looks like I should start angling for time over the weekend.

A basic question, but hoping I can learn from the more experienced guys on here... It's going to be pretty warm this week. How will that affect rut activity? If it does, any advice on how to hunt it?

Second sit update...saw 5 this morning from the same stand as the first sit. 2 does, 2 fawns and another small buck. The buck was out of range and I let the does walk again -- hope I won't regret that later in the season. I went to the stand in the SE corner to practice getting in when I hunt...

An update for this thread...did my first sit this morning. Saw 8 deer -- 4 does, 3 fawns and a spike buck. Had shots at does with fawns but didn't want to take them with the fawns around; also let the buck go. Found a bedding area in a small clearing where an oil well used to be. Saw a few...

Did my first sit this morning. Saw 8 deer -- 4 does, 3 fawns, and a spike buck. Had a shot at two of the does, but they were with the fawns so let them go. Also had a shot at the buck but let him walk too. Saw a few scrapes and found a larger buck on camera - still on the small side so hope...

I will be doing my first sit this weekend. Had a small buck and doe on camera, a few rubs and well traveled trails. I hope that all adds up to a good season. I will post if I get anything.

Welcome. I too started this obsession on the late side. A few already suggested the hunter safety course - it's required to get a hunting license and a really good idea to learn how to be safe around firearms and in the field. Many knowledge guys on this forum who are willing to share - since...

As Joel said there are instructions on their web site to see if yours needs a repair. Mine is on the list as well - I haven't checked the operation of the safety but I will so at least I know what I'm dealing with. Sorry to hear you're restricted to the cross bow. Hope yours is working properly...

Thank you for your service. How far can you travel to hunt? I can give you a lead on a club but it's a few hours from Westlake on the far eastern edge of the state.

It's very flat. There are a couple of seasonal creeks and a man made ridge a few hundred feet long from an old oil well. Otherwise flat. Don't know if the oil well ridge will be appealing to deer but I'll scout it.

Here are a few - no trophies, but that's not my priority, so I'm happy to see the activity. I put stands/blinds by each the of starred areas suggested in the early post along with feeder blocks (also relocated the cameras and put them lower so I can get a better look than the attached)...

Did some scouting today, particularly around the yellow star. Quite a few oak trees already dropping acorns, and lots of sign. I put a stand and a camera there. Hope I'll have something to show! Thanks again for the advice.
