Sandusky county has way better numbers then it used to. I've dropped a few in that county over the years.

It still shouldnt be a 2 deer county neither should Erie, Erie should be negative 2 deer county, a hunter should have to cage raise 3 to be able to shoot 1
That area of the state has had an increase while the rest decreased...I grew up hunting Ottawa/Sandusky during the late 90's-early 2000's. Sandusky county park system has done a hell of a job managing their deer heard also. JB's outlook on the ODNR is very clear to me now.

Your right Giles there are a few places in sandusky county that I would argue are some the best in the state period shhhhhhhhh, the problem is your hunts there can be ruined instantly unlike south and eastern part of the state.

other hunters, beagles, walkers, 4 wheelers. Woods in Sandusky county are not very abundant and everything can be pushed out fairly quickly, where I have hunted state land in several eastern/souther counties and have seen deer all day long with hunter/walkers disturbance activity gun and bow. Gun season in North West Ohio typically a hunter gets 1 chance 3 shots and that day/week is basically over.

I guess what I am trying to say, Sandusky County have some dense pockets of deer on small amounts of terrain (woods/swamp), when not molested can be very rewarding. This is hard to do on state land. Eastern/Southern Ohio woods are typically much bigger, the population of deer is much higher and are much more evenly dispersed. So if Bubba's beagles run out the herd in Woodbury, you may still have a chance, Sandusky County it could be crickets for a week straight.

Personally, I think public land should have it's own regulations. Regardless, you can't set the limits for an entire county based on one piece of public land. If that were the case, we'd all be in one deer counties.
Well even our private property numbers are down. Mainly due to the hunting styles of neighbours and crop damage permits given out in the area.
EVWA is a huge tract of land second i think only to WNF in size. We hunt varied areas of it and sightings and numbers were down last season by 75-90% from the heyday of the early 2000s.
Fyi my Outlook on the DNR has little to do with Sandusky County specifically. There are a few pockets with good numbers but that's about it. Hence the reason we only kill 800-900 deer a year. My outlook is merely a result of not feeling like I have to see 10 deer every time I sit in a tree to be happy.

To my recolection nobody has ever said they feel like they must see 10 deer in a sit. However i have seen many people say they didnt see a single deer in three days in areas where they used to see plenty. Maybe the DNR didn't screw up Sandusky county like they have others. But its also a weak argument to tell others their deer population isn't a problem because your deer county has always had way lower numbers and you're used to it. That would be like telling someone from the golden triangle of Iowa who was hit hard with EHD to sucks it up because your county only shoots a 105 inch average and you're happy with that. You're sole opinion cant be used to measure the whole of the DNRs performance across the state. In your area it can, but thats about the end of its validity. And its a pretty weak argument to say they've done a good job because you're accustomed to crappy hunting. I mean its pretty hard to make a shit sandwich any shittier of a sandwich. Cant fuck up whats already a fuckup right? From what i seen most people from plenty of locations across the state dont agree with your opinion. Most think they've done a very a poor job in their area. A lot of these people ised to be eating prime ribbsandwiches and the DNR lathered it in shit, you opinion is "come on guys, eating shits not that bad we've been esting it for years, you get used to it you spoiled assholes" come on man. That aint right.
All I'm saying is, during the off season all you hear on TOO is a bunch of boohooing about deer and the regs and the DNR.... But it's funny because during season this place is pretty flush with harvest threads, and close encounters and sighting threads, and wounded deer threads. Everyone complains about mismanagement this and that, and then have a buttload of trailcam pics and stories to share around. We sure complain a lot for being some super successful mofos. And please don't anyone tell me, "yes but TOO members are the cream of the crop." I'm sorry to burst y'alls bubbles but we ain't. At least not in my opinion we're not. There is a shit ton of knowledge and experience here but trust me there's a lot of non-member folks out there that would out-hunt, out-fish, and out-trap every single person on this site. I say that with absolutely no disrespect to anyone on TOO. I look up to a lot of people here. It's just my opinion.
Opportunity leads to higher kill numbers.
Just like additional opening days with all the speciallittle seasons does.
I think bow kills outnumbered all others last year if we want to save the herd we decrease the number of deer killed.
