I don’t understand the shoe thing. Does he have to sit out a play because he lost equipment or what? Just trying to get into his head? Inside joke? Kids being kids?

sorry, but that doesn't compute.

NCAA football D1 academic progress rating for 2018: Michigan 990, OSU 982, for 2019 OSU 987, Michigan 982. these ratings are based on 1000 possible, 930 or below and they are in academic trouble with NCAA. Suggesting that Michigans' football program is suffering because academics standards are getting in the way is laughable. comparing these ratings is tantamount to splitting hairs, anyway. Michigan cannot keep up in recruiting and has an inferior coaching staff. Jim Harbaugh has not recruited a top level QB, despite being a QB/offense oriented guy himself. Why?

As I was reading about these academic progress ratings I was surprised by some of the powerhouse football schools rankings. Notably, Bama and Clemson among the best, LSU and Georgia among the worst.

Good God, Im referring to why the administration would never fire Harbaugh, not anything else. They dont place football high enough IMO, which is what im trying to convey. Damn, I know you want me to bow down and idolize everything OSU and mouth breathe the same air as you in total agreeement, but atleast understand what I was talking about haha

Guess I didn’t know the admin forces them to only target academic all Americans for football scholarships!
I believe they get just as many scholarships as the other D1 schools.
Go Bucks!! 😂
Wtf does this have anything to do with what I was talking about? I'll play though. I'm a college football recruiting junkie. I spend a good portion of time obsessing over it. To suggest that any team that gets 85 schollies has an equal chance is laughable

"Problem with Michigan is they pride themselves as an academic institution first and foremost"

We're supposed to understand from that statement that Harbaughs job is safe because academics are more important than football to the administration of UM?

not sure any Michigan fan deserves to mouth breath the same air as me, or is smart enough to agree with me when I'm right.

every college in the world prides itself on academics first and foremost, and that is neither a problem, nor "the" problem. I hope they keep Harbaugh and the entire coaching staff for another 30 years.

Well, go back and read the original reply instead of being on your post victory high horse. It was basically me replying to Jesse wondering about Harbaughs job security and me replying that his job is safe, due to Michigan not giving enough f**s because they are snobby and don't value athletic performance as much as most us fans would like. It pisses me off as it does most michigan fans that maybe he isnt held accountable enough to the outside perspective. Maybe internally he is, I don't know.

Thats the 7.5 million dollar question. And thats what Im saying. Thats just how Michigan is, to most fans dismay. But, OSU brings in much better players, I get it. There's about 5-6 teams on one level in college football, and about 100 other teams hoping to jump in there every few years. Its why Harbaugh would love ti expand playoffs. Michigan will be lucky to make it there as its played now. Osu is a machine and we cant compete consistently. or at all lately

Lol, college football has been this way for 60 years or more. a half dozen or so teams dominate for a decade or so, then they fall off and somebody else rises up to dominate, ad infinitum. maybe you aren't old enough to have lived through the John Cooper era at OSU. everyone who has been a Buckeye fan since the 80's knows EXACTLY what Michigan fans are going through right now. 20-30 years ago, this monkey was on our back. We're just reveling in the joy of that, for now. no doubt, The Ohio State University is a very successful brand (across all sports, academics, research, etc.) maybe the most successful of all Division 1 universities, But Michigan is right up there, too. the football program is mired in mediocrity right now. that isn't because a lack of funding, outdated facilities or anything of the sort. recruiting and coaching if the problem.

I agree 1000%. It's a talent gap issue first and foremost. OSU, BAMA, UGA, LSU, Clemson are just gonna get more talented kids due to location. Then add in that they win and pump kids into the NFL year after year, and you get a machine. The way its different now is the overall population of the US has shifted south dramatically in the last 20-25 years. Theres just more homegrown talent in those southern states and Ohio. The real sleeping giants are Texas and USC. If Urban gets the USC job, look out. He's a monster at recruiting and can coach them up

This can easily been seen as a backhanded insult at OSU or another school, because they don’t pride themselves as a academic institution first and foremost.

Give me a break, you really think that Michigan takes their academics more seriously or makes it a higher priority than any other major institution of higher learning?

Guess that explains all those scholars they recruit for their basketball program over the past decades.

The vast majority of these football players are as educated as a bag of dog turds. And that is at almost every university. Some universities place a higher value on football than others and in some places the tail very much wags the dog. This however does not mean it produces a lower education package for the students simply due to the sports program.

As I'm reading it. . . Redhunter is saying the school places more emphasis on education than football. I didn't think he was comparing education levels of UM ball players versus OSU ball players.

Thank you Phil. Exactly what im saying. I couldnt give two shits about either schools educations ranking, Im past furthering my education. Besides, when was the last time 100,000 people plunked down good money to watch a bunch of poindexters take a math test?

Yes I do. Its a fact that Michigan, ND, Stanford, Virginia, and a few other major teams do. Not saying they dont take a few borderline kids every year, but not the amount most schools do. And they very, very rarely take a JUCO kid to fill a spot of need like the upper echelon schools do

Do you have facts to back up this idea that some schools value a sport more than others. Or is this simply you opinion? Sounds like an excuse for Michigan sucking to me.

I assure you OSU values their football program more than Miami. Same can be said for Bama and Arkansas. Same could be said for Penn St that basically covered up allegations of sexual abuse for decades. It happens. Sometimes the tail wags the dog.
