and that is sample that is completely confined. I realize compared to the entire population of our state that a couple thousand inmates is a relatively small sample, but is there any evidence or argument that those results are not, or should not be, indicative of the expected numbers of asymptomatic people in the general population (outside of prison, I mean)? has been my suspicion all along that waaaay more people have had this virus than anyone making policy will ever admit.

I dont think theres any way we could statistically exclude if from being indicative of the general population with the exception of the 1-18 age group. But other data show that they experience less harsh symptoms, so it would only cause the asymptomatic number to rise.

That's 96% of people who tested positive had no symptoms. Not 96% of the prison tested positive.
Yes, but wasn't the positive rate something like 73%? And i was getting at our people are symptomatic and met all criteria to be tested and roughly 75% were negative. And with all of the + patients, we have only had 2 staff test positive??

Oh I'm sure it was pretty high. Prisons are very close quarters. And they can't just lock them in their cell because of state laws around the amount of time they can be in cells, outside etc. And it's all shared ventilation. So the case stats around infectiin should be much higher.

Similar to basic training and tech school. How are they dealing with those?

I’ve read they’ve moved beds into other areas like hallways, meeting rooms. They also went from 3 meals to 2 And are allowing them to take food to Their living areas.

Man. Just read this - very sad.. There were 230 residents at this veteran's home and nearly 70 died from COVID. That puts the death rate for this home at around 30%:

"Nearly 70 residents sickened with the coronavirus have died at a Massachusetts home for aging veterans, as state and federal officials try to figure out what went wrong in the deadliest known outbreak at a long-term care facility in the U.S.

While the death toll at the state-run Holyoke Soldiers' Home continues to climb, federal officials are investigating whether residents were denied proper medical care and the state's top prosecutor is deciding whether to bring legal action.

“It's horrific,” said Edward Lapointe, whose father-in-law lives at the home and had a mild case of the virus. “These guys never had a chance."

Sixty-eight veteran residents who tested positive for the virus have died, officials said Tuesday, and it's not known whether another person who died had COVID-19. Another 82 residents and 81 employees have tested positive."

I know this virus hits the elderly hard, but 30% is off the charts. And that was 2 days ago - many of those men are still sick and have not recovered. That number will probably rise. I can't imagine what conditions must be like in that facility...

I won't lie. My twisted mind thought it. Poor girl though. What a tragedy. I couldn't make that joke.

Well, my friend who has it sounds a lot better on the phone....voice isn’t as raspy and she’s not coughing as much. Temp still up and down ranging from normal to 102. Her daughter is also a nurse and her job had her tested because of her mother having it....the daughter tested positive also...but she is showing no signs of it and feels fine. Her boyfriend didn’t get tested yet but with the amount of time they spend together, he’s probably got it also. They are late 20’s and fit, so probably won’t even slow them down.

Great that she's sounding better... I guess everyone has different tolerance levels and react different... Of all the ones I know that have had it only one was bad where he had organs starting to fail... It didn't affect his lungs that much and one day just turned it around...

My buddy that I’ve been hanging with for the past few months building rabbit cages and fishing with tested positive today....if he’s got it, I know I’ve got it. Guess we’re in the group that shows no sign.
