Found a Lions Mane today. Only the second one I've ever found.

Nancy found a choice puffball at the bike path while running the dogs yesterday and had the presence of mind to bring it home (apparently, the training is sinking in at least a little, lol.) I've never found one good enough to bring home, so this was my first time eating it. I didn't want to spend too much time on it for the first taste, so I decided grill some, which turned out to be very easy and very tasty, too. I bread and fry some tomorrow. :)

northern mi fall break trip. Spent the 1st day shrooming/hiking. Found enough edibles for a good pasta dish. Many many different shrooms found for the 1st time. We had one day of good weather then it rained the rest of our time. The boy and i got soaked twice in downpours trying to get out and fish. The maple colors were crazy good. Fun fall trip even if we were rained out.

Must be too dry in my area. Walked a good bit today looking where I found lots of them last year at this time and found nothing today.

I poached this nice Maitake about 40 feet from the pavement today while driving by. probably about 15lbs. biggest one I've found ever, only one I've seen this year. do you hen getters freeze some of these big ones? too much for two of us to eat in a few days.

If you freeze, tear each petal off in individual pieces then you boil them about 5 minutes, strain, and pack ziploc baggies full of them. You can essentially squeeze all the air out. I can up about 10 pints of mushroom gravy the other day

Nice, that one looks prime. I've frozen them raw & went from freezer to hot pan . Tastes just like fresh.

Freezing them raw is what I'm going to do. After reading a little more, this seems like the best way for me to put these up for how I intend to use them.

I drove by this thing every day twice for the last two weeks. How I did not notice it before now is a mystery, but I wish I had found it a few days ago. when I walked up to it it was very dry looking, and it was dried out on the edges a little, but we have had no rain to speak of for several days here. Not dry enough to matter, really as the rest was fine.
