Perfect stalking weather!33* 22 mph wind, gusting 30
How far was the shot? These straight wall cartridges lose their ass pretty quickly and I could see it potentially ricocheting around maybe at the right angle and distance, but I am no ballistics expert whatsoever. Best bet is back out and go in the morning, but I do understand the coyote issue.Alright guys need some of your advice as I really don’t want to screw this up. My daughter hit a buck at 430. I did not have a good view as she was in front of me and I was coaching her up. He was broadside and I stopped him for a shot. She was a little nervous and squeezed it off as he started to move again. She was shooting at his left side. My dad was sitting next to me and said he thought she hit shoulder. He said he saw blood right away. The deer took off and was dragging its back right leg. It stopped at about a hundred yards and wobbled. Thought it was going to go down but then it just walked away another 50 yards until I lost sight. My dad saw it in the binoculars and said the back right leg was soaked with blood. We found bright red blood where we saw him last I have not found any bile or signs of gut. I also have not found any king blood. I marked blood at the last spot I was him and backed out. At the point of impact I found fur and a small piece of jellied meat. I know I’m waiting a minimum of 8 hours and I would wait until the morning if the coyotes weren’t so bad around here. I’m having a hard time understanding how she could hit the left shoulder and it exit the right back leg but miss vitals. She was shooting a 350 legend. Any thoughts?

I agree with this.Damage is done at this point. If coyotes finish him, that's what happens. I'd wait until good light and look in the morning. Have her ready to finish the job.
350 legend does not leave much of a trail to follow. Definitely back out until you can see good. I have tracked 2 buddies deer that I was not impressed with, one was shot right thru the ham and into the guts only reason we found it was the snow on the ground. hopefully she got that artery or he opens up the further he goes.Alright guys need some of your advice as I really don’t want to screw this up. Will cook you out on M or H.18° and 13mph breeze made for a chilly walk in. Brought the bigger buddy heater to see how it does.
Good luck everyone
