This is as many as I have ever found this early. I don't usually get into them heavy until mid to late July. It is interesting to me that I have one honey hole that always are the first to produce and peaks around the third or fourth week of July and others that don't start until end of July, then peak around the second week of August or later, assuming that it is an average year for production weather, etc.

Checked one of my smaller spots on my place today after mowing. Pleasantly surprised, and why I keep buckets and scissors in the truck at all times this time of year.

I have noticed that the really early Chants are short, kind of chunky, not very well formed and not nearly as aromatic as the later ones. They still taste good, though. This bunch is really nice, very aromatic although it is still early. No bug or slugs and very clean for Chanterelles.

Went to cut firewood at my property today but after discovering that my log splitter had been stolen  I decided to take a little walk to keep myself from getting any more pissed off. about it. The universe giveth, the universe taketh. Found some nice fresh Sparassis where I got a nice bucket of Chants last weekend, then found some nice Chants in a place that I've never seen them before. Guess it wasn't a total loss.
