Figured I’d start a new thread since it looks like we may actually have a decent ice season this year.

I got out today and did a little pond hopping. Caught some micro gills, and 25-30 stunted crappies. Still playing with the settings on this fancy fish finder, but getting the hang of it. Found an old barrel in my dad’s pond, other pic is a school of crappie I was chasing around.

Dr. FF and I hit a semi-local reservoir this morning. According to shitty forum reports it had 4-5” of ice. According to what we found, it was 4-5” at best, some spots an inch and a half or less- definitely a pucker factor. We were hoping for saugeye, but only found crappie and white bass. Fished a few hours, built some stache-sicles, caught a few and decided wings and beers sounded better.

Big crowds out of Catawba the last few days, it was tempting today but decided against it with the southerly wind. There’s gonna be a lot of people floating to Canada this weekend, can almost guarantee that. Decided to head east and hit a Lake Erie tributary in search of steelhead. Fished from 8-12, brought 2 topside, and lost 1 other. Unbelievable amount of Shad, and water was a little dirtier than anticipated. Jigged spoon with some powerbait worked the best. Steelhead are the hardest fighting fish I’ve run into through the ice. Electronics are useless, fish come from no where and hit your bait at full speed and make some awesome runs. Can be sketchy ice fishing on moving water, just gotta pay attention and constantly spud.

They sure look pretty out of the cold water. Congratulations! Your right on people going for a ride. Blowing 30 out of the southwest. I'd say go at your own risk but your not getting rescued when it breaks free. Stupid assholes would still go lol.
