I’m coming out in two weeks to work on my property and to turkey hunt. I’m going to look for morels also. If I find some, and I put them in a ziplock bag then in a cooler with ice, will they be ok for a few days until I get them home, or are they fragile? I don’t want to get home and have a bag of rotten morels.

I put them in a gallon ziplock bag with a moist paper towel, leave the last inch of the bag unsealed. They'll keep for a couple weeks in the fridge like that.

Saturday is a travel day and Sunday we are checking on/doing work on my buddies camp and working on my property. Monday will start turkey hunting and I believe you guys will be gone by then. When I retire and have more time, I plan on making some of the gatherings.

We take rt50 to rt33 in Athens to Logan. Staying at a hotel. Buddies camp is in McArthur but utilities are shut off....he’s going to demo the bldg and build new...that’s one of the reasons we are making the trip. I will make it to one of these gatherings. I did check out the cabin rentals at paint creek just so I’d know how to go about renting a site. I don’t have a camper so checked out the cabins. They ain’t bad...only $50 per day I believe...but I’d have to make reservations way in advance.

When I stay at my buddies camp, we’ll take rt 50 all the way to McArthur...but we aren’t staying at the camp on this trip. McArthur doesn’t have any good motels, so we stay at Logan. Trip isn’t to bad...it takes about 8 1/2 hours if I drive straight through. Paint creek seems to be about a half hour west of the camp, and I believe the other gathering TOO had was at DOW Lake? That’s less than a half hour east of camp. Every time a gathering is scheduled, I’ll check on a map to see how far away from McArthur it is.

Damn! Whenever I get the time to make one of these gatherings, I know what I can bring...I have a lot of oak trees at my place here in Jersey. I could fill the back of my pickup with just the deadfall that comes down every year. I’ve got several huge oaks that a storm brought down two years ago...the wood is seasoned so all I have to do is cut it up.
