I would not smoke up my snares. Also those of you worried about catching dogs 90% of the time a dog that has been on a chain or leash before will not kill it's self in a snare. They keep calm after a few minutes. I also wouldn't paint my snares due to scent reasons. They hide well enough as they are.

I'm no expert though.
 
Wouldn't the majority of the movement be dusk too dawn (low light conditions) so I wouldn't think having too paint them would be an issue you'd have too worry about.....
 
Never did a thing to mine but hang them on a nail in the shed. Just rubber boots and gloves when i set them. Its not like a regular trap where there is bait that brings them in and they sniff around looking. But i guess you can never be TOO cautious!!!

I've boiled mine w baking soda. It just takes the shine off. Probably not necessary, but its what I read when I was getting started.
 
2 sets ten feet apart with a mouse strategically placed in between.

Good luck Ben. Not even going to ask where the field mouse came from or how you caught it lol.

Will get mine out Wednesday afternoon on my way to the stand for an evening deer hunt.

Maybe not, but you are far more experienced and successful than many of us. lmao

You also seem to have a pretty good mentor or two teaching you or you wouldn't have put up as much fur as you have the last couple years. Looking forward to your adventures this year. Much motivation for many of us.
 
Everything is ready for this weekend. Will be getting a few snares out and setting a few dog proof traps out. I have no doubt I will get the DP traps full and will be able to keep them full the rest of the season. Just not sure about the snares lol.
 
For anybody that has any traps out tonight, check them early tomorrow lol. Just had my sister in laws dogs outside and the train had the yote yippin pretty good tonight. Not very often I can hear them here in town but I do know they are just about a mile away at the local rez that sites up on a hill. Anytime I go night fishing up there you can hear them yip or you hear the unfortunate rabbit get snagged and cry.

Any Sunday or Monday your more then welcome to tag along as I figure things out as well. Any Saturday evening you want to go hit some coon let me know too. Gets boring walkin along by myself talking to the wind lmao.
