Youth season will be here again this weekend. Be sure to have your orange. If taking kids, remember that it is their hunt, not yours. Make it fun and share with friends! This is our future, it’s up to us to do our part. Sadly, I don’t have a kid ready to leave our own property and no deer here. Maybe one will show up.

Opposite of you Dave. Got the property and deer just 2 kids with zero interest. My daughter turned vegetarian this past Spring and is on the verge of becoming a tree hugger.. “Don’t hurt the animals Dad!” I’m going to PA bear chasing.

My kids are stuck also. I’m not sure any of them will carry the torch once mines out, but I still try and make it fun for them. Even if it’s 3 minutes of chasing squirrel...

It ain’t them I don’t trust. I also have different feelings than some about “killing” things. They will wait till 13, just like I did.i believe you gotta have hair on your balls to do manly things. Nothing against what other people do, just my feelings.

Kody missed a giant 14 point when he was 7 with a ML. At that point I felt like I was pushing him and made a deal with myself to wait until 13. Even though I think Maddy was 12 when she killed her first deer. Close enough

I made my kids wait until they were 10. I wanted them to fully understand what was going on with life and death and responsibility. Sure a 6 year old might be able to make a killing shot but it’s not all about the shot. It seemed to work out for my kids.

I believe my youngest has been ready since he was about 4. Dude is a machine and always by my side with butchering and everything. So every kid is different.

Get 'em in the woods if they are mature enough to know what it means to kill a deer. Age has nothing to do with it in my book but I do see some kids get rushed into it and end up not enjoying it as they get older.

I don’t think there’s a right or wrong answer. As parents we do the best we can. Hell, Jesse has been taking a baby swing to the blind for years! I support that too.
