Today started in a new area in the north end of yuma county and the South end af maracopa county. The day started out on a hot foot of a herd of 7 doe in a wash after much time behind the binos there was no buck to be found. Not that we did not cover alot of ground the rest of the day, but that was it for deer sightings.
As we would move to new areas we would let the kid have some fun, by stopping and setting up for predators. On Levi's first set we called in 3 yotes, with one shot op. That was one lucky dog, it never stood still and was on the run. Levi did good keeping on him as all four rounds fired were hitting close enough, that it was raining rocks on the coyote. levi was just not able to get one in him before he found Cover. The other 2 sets did not offer shots but did produce one gray fox and another solo yote.
We did come across some 10,000 year old petroglyph's that we took the time to check out. All in all good day, I could not ask for a better partners to have with me out here. Back at it in the morning!

Short version!

Still no bucks, have 2 days left and still determined to up that 4.4% success rate. No cat for levi, would have hammered a yote, but he had a FTF on the first round. Little shit did good, he had the AR cycled and ejected before I could tell him to. Do to that he shot it in the ass as it was running away[emoji12]

First buck today, a very kill able spike. Passed on him and chose to chance it on the last day tomorrow.
Levi did however itch that finger on a jack rabbit this afternoon. We did not do any predator hunting today as the clock on a deer is running out. Found plenty of fresh deer tracks as we moved today and will be going back in in the morning.

And the fat lady has sang with no arrows released, but not without a good show!

we headed back to the same area as the day before, due to finding that lone spike the day before. With the assumption that he had been kicked outta his herd while momma got her groove on. finding them is such a challenge, as there are no such things as the , next wood lot or pinch points and funnels. They just walk where ever the hell they want, then find a wash and poof, gone for ever!
It was not long after arriving to the area that I was hunting before we found them. about a mile in we passed the first hunter in days, or at least his buggy pulled off the two track road. We never did see him. Shortly after passing where we found the lone yearling the day before. There it was....... the sight we had been looking for, a herd of 6 doe with 3 bucks about a half mile out on the next hillside.
Without the need of binos to see antlers, I knew that I had found what I was looking for. As we stopped the jeep and threw up the binos it was obvious that we had just missed, the battle with one leaving head hung low after getting his ass kick, he never even looked back! One set of eyes is better than 7 when putting the seek on, I chose to stay with the lone buck. After following him to what we thought was the lone tree he bedded in. I moved to catch the wind in my face and was off, after an hour of bush to cactus to tree, and so on. No deer, he had found a wash behind that tree, instead of bedding down behind it.
And that was it, we bounced around the rest of the day looking for them, without such luck. We did have to stop and let Levi shoot the rabbits that were to dumb to run as we would pass them. He thinks he's hot shit with shooting 100% on Jacks out here, with 2 or 3 more yesterday.
I guess I'm just going to have to go for a round three out here, later this year. As for levi he says he's not leaving, and he's just going to live with his uncle to become a great desert rat!
