I picked up this sporterized No.4 MK1 for a 100 dollars a few years ago. I have a hobby of resporterizing sporterized military rifles. I have done a mauser, 1903 rechambered in .25-06 and a krag. This this particular rifle is a 1942 lithgow manufactured No. 4 MK. If i am reading the barrel marks correctly it left service in 1953. Sometime after that it was sporterized by Parker and Hale before being imported to the US. This rifle has a very fine front sight and the P&H trigger job gives the rifle a very crisp four pound break. It is actually a pretty accurate rifle. The walnut butt stock is not original to the rifle and does not match the cut down military beech forestock. I did not care for the polyurethane finish so I removed it and sanded out the dents. I used aqua fortis to darken the beech forestock. I oil finished both stocks to give the rifle a little nicer look.

In the future I may restock the rifle with a new walnut stock that will resemble the style of the 1900's lee speed hunting rifles. If someone has an old Parker and Hale rear appature sight or a singer rear sight for the No 4 lee enfield i would love to buy it.

I have owned, sold and traded a good number of firearms in my life. The only one I regret selling was my K31 swiss rifle. So naturally when the opportunity comes along to buy that exact rifle back I am do it! I cannot wait until there is a little more snow in the mountains so I can do some primitive winter camping. I also cannot think of any other rifle better suited to the job than a K31. If I happen across a mountain lion I will use it to fill my tag.
