As my wife says...Gun Porn!

Now I just need to get rid of this God-forsaken muzzle break. I hate this thing. Ridiculously loud and just doesn't suit the gun IMO. I wish I could find something to thread on that would just look like the regular end of a gun barrel.

So the stock RRA handguard on my X-series rifle was a bit too bulky for my liking. With the scope and the bipod, it just felt heavier than it needed to be. A few weeks ago I picked up a new lightweight free-float handguard made by Midwest Industries. It's a 15" SSK Keymod series to be precise. I didn't get a deal on it... It was expensive... But I wanted it, so it is what it is. Lol. Anyway, today I finally got around to making the swap. This was the first time I've attempted this. Thank God for YouTube. Lol. It was pretty painless actually. I did have some difficulties getting the stock locking ring to break free and also the barrel nut. Apparently Rock River is a big fan of thread-locker, because they had plenty of it on there! Some heat from a heat gun a few times and I was able to get everything broke free though. The new handguard went on easy-peazy.

Very happy with the change so far. It's noticeably lighter and does look better too, IMO. The new handguard has QD holes machined into it as well, so sling attachment is quick and easy, which I didn't have before.

Old handguard on the right, new one on the left...

Fuggin nice

Couldn't agree more on the muzzle break. Talk about obnoxiously loud. Outside of looking cool and some functional purposes (miniscule purposes), I'm not a fan. Since I don't care about looking cool it may as well go.

That is one fine setup Jim!

Looks nice Jim... How's the finish on it? Some of the hand guards I've looked at seem too have very sharp edges on them which I'm not a fan of....
Was the last one free foot as well?

Yep, the stock one was a free-float as well... Just a little different mounting system.

The finish on the new one is excellent. No flaws that I can find. All smooth edges... Very nice.

I use the same rails. I have two with them, they are great.
