My beloved Marine Corps has ruined 3 things for me... beaches, pine trees and walking with anything on my back! AKA. Back packing
Facts... wife wants to go to beach with the kids so bad I'm not looking forward to it... pine tress well , yeah screw those to. And I don't enjoy anything on my back or touching my neck lol. I'm the young neighbor out of the neighborhood yelling at all the retired people to stay off my damn lawn! Although the one neighbor is very close to finding out what a backpack is

You must be a Lejeune boy also
Surprisingly not my main home. However I was the only single guy in my unit at the time in point. One deployment with my unit , two augmented out of lejeune lol . Used to laugh at all the guys marrying the first thing that looked at them , looking back who was the dummy 😳

Not done any over night hikes. Hiked into Mount LeConte, stayed at their primitive cabins, hiked out. Have not done any overnight hikes since Fort Leonard Wood, 1993.

We usually just camp and hike. Or Air BnB and hike now since we sold our camper.

When I was younger, we’d backpack into the wilderness areas of the Allegheny National Forest for 8-10 days in the spring and fall.
I Was never an “ultra lighter”. We’d deal with 70# packs to a base camp some miles in then do one-day hikes from there in different directions.

Some of the best times ever!

That was the only part I hated. Tick check every night.
Wish I knew about Permethrin then.
