Its extremely sad...but true.Rick... I guess anything is possible in today's world... Wouldn't be the first time I was played for a sucker...I guess maybe a good New Years resolution would be: No more mister nice guy...

I’m with you brother, I feel the same wayI would never ever hunt someone else's stand on public. That stand just tells me keep going, maybe cut deer off well before they get to this guy or just find a completely better place. You don't know how often he hunts, how he hunts, deer that have been spooked there, stand full of jizz and sticky, etc.. Never understood why someone would hunt another person's stand as IF they found the holy Grail of all stand locations. If anything it marks off a spot I don't worry about hunting.
My view is different. I'd rather someone use my set up than bumble fuck the area looking to cut me off. Who cares if they kill a slob out of it? Means I won. I picked the right spot.
Would you guys let a buddy sit in your stand? I don't see the difference.
What if I use a self climber and been hunting an area for years and you hang a stand on the tree I use? If every single person hangs a stand on public land there wouldn’t be any where to hunt. Being a slob hunter who liters is a completely different conversation, I typically out walk the smokersHunting someone else’s stand without their permission is definitely not right. If you invite a friend to sit it, that’s ok...but for a stranger to just go sit it after all the work and scouting you’ve done just isn’t right. I’ve found cigarette butts, candy wrappers and empty water bottles at the base of some of my stands on public land. In my opinion, that guy just ruined that stand for the rest of the season. If I find someone’s stand, I won’t sit it and will move on to greener pastures. That’s why I do all of my scouting in February and March. No hunters in the woods, you can see deer trails, old rubs/scrapes much easier before the green up of spring, no bugs and cool temps. If I find any signs of another hunter in the area, I will move on. I want to find a spot that I’m confident in, and take it as a intrusion on my efforts if someone else stumbles across my setup and decides to hunt it. May as well just walk into my home and sit down at the dinner table uninvited....maybe even roll in the hay with my old’ lady while you’re at it....and drink up all of my beer! I have NEVER sat someone else’s stand..I would feel like I’m stealing all of the hard work that they took the time to put in. I have sat a friends stand a few times but only when I was asked to do so...and I have had people sit my stands. Last fall my buddies daughter killed a doe out of one of my stands...it was earn a buck (early season you have to kill a doe before you’re allowed to kill a buck) and she was having trouble killing a doe...2 hour sit and she killed her doe....and I got some real good homemade chocolate chip cookies a few days later!

If I ever came across that situation...and I have, I simply move on. I had a stand that I’ve hunted since 1982 and in 2007 someone put a stand 20 yards from my stand...I pulled my stand and repositioned it 100 yards away in the swamp where the deer typically came from. I did this after dark and made sure I got in extra early. He never knew I was there until I drug my buck past him on the way out. My hunting time is too precious to be butting heads and wasting my time. Another time I went to my stand in the afternoon and there was someone sitting in it. It was over bait and I’d been baiting it since august and planned on only hunting it during our week long gun season...well the afternoon of the opener I had this leech in my stand. I told him to get out or I’ll get you out. He left but returned during the night and cut down the tree. This was on private land. Lucky for him, he never came back. What if I use a self climber and been hunting an area for years and you hang a stand on the tree I use? Dave... I actually don't want to chat with him... If he hunted there before and shot Casper I would have congratulated him and help him drag it out... I don't own the deer... But don't F with my stuff...If you don't want someone in your stand on public land, don't leave it. You are trying to claim a part of public property.
Yes Rich, that dude is a dick for messing with your property. Maybe some day you two can chat and see what actually happened. Big deer make people do stupid shit.
I don’t see how you leaving your stand on public justifies a random person stumbling along through there to sit it. You don’t hop into someone else’s car just because they parked in your spot at work....If you don't want someone in your stand on public land, don't leave it. You are trying to claim a part of public property.

It’s public land, so everyone has a right to be there. However, if someone took the time to scout and set up, you should respect that they got there first and go find another spot. There are plenty of spots in the woods to hunt, so you don’t need to ruin another persons hunt because he got to “your” spot before you did. It’s sorta like going to your favorite restaurant and seeing someone in your favorite table and sitting at that table with them...like they weren’t there. I know some on here aren’t going to agree, but there’s hardly any topic where everyone agrees 100%. This is just the way I was brought up hunting. When scouting in the late winter/early spring, if I find someone’s setup on public land that they haven’t removed yet, it tells me that someone is already hunting that area and I’ll go to a different location to avoid the competition. I wouldn’t even entertain the idea of putting a stand up early before the next season to try and “get there first”. I avoid other hunters as much as the deer try to avoid them...and if I KNOW there is another hunter in the area, I’m leaving for a better, more remote area. Then don't leave it. Pretty simple. Use a mobile set up and hope no one else used a mobile set in "your" spot.
I don't hunt public or stands, maybe this is why I see it this way. Seems crazy to me that people feel entitled to a certain spot because of a stand. You think you are the only person able to scout or what?
Can you put a dock out on public waters and expect no one else to fish it?
I'm sure I'm stepping on some toes here, explain it to me. Because right now we are on opposite sides. I think the person leaving the stand on public land is at fault. (Tree hugger outlook or birdwatchers view.)
