I've been making beef tallow lotion and balm for almost 3 years now. I actually use suet, which is the internal fat around the kidneys. We both use it as an overall body lotion.
When I am trimming roasts, brisket, etc, I cook the trimmings down to use for cooking tallow and store it in the refrigerator in Mason jars.
BTW, we also make our own Avocado Oil Mayo. Very easy to make and very good.
