Thanks for the advice. I think I’ll go with the glove finger method
Even with the glove finger on, if you go out in the rain, unload gun before next trip out and reload with fresh load... Guy out in Illinois this year was told to replace his load night before opener... He hunted in Pa. with it prior to comming out... He was lazy and said: It's good... Next morning a big 10 point walked up to him and gun misfired....

Is there a TOO get together for gun week? I know we have done muzzy hunt in the past. Seems like decent conditions for a walk in some of the muzzy spots or in some other public pieces down there

I don't. Forces way to many deer to go nocturnal. This is why the rut has become a myth.

Not calling Jim out, just talking in general. The shift of deer hunting...me no likie.
But here’s the thing... those deer are SOMEWHERE during daylight. They don’t just vanish from the landscape and appear after it gets dark. They’re only nocturnal if you’re hunting areas where they only show up in the dark. Use the pressure to your advantage... hunt smart with wind and access in mind, and hunt tight to the bedding areas. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not easy. It takes a lot of patience and stealth. But the deer still exist, even if “nocturnal,” and if they exist they are killable.

Regarding the rut, I’ve seen excellent seeking and chasing activity during daylight the last 2-3 years in a row. Same time period... last week of October through first week of November. Not saying what you’ve witnessed is incorrect. It’s just another example of how things can vary from one region to another.

I agree and I have adapted with the culture. I'm just one of those guys that is still stuck on the old times of deer camp during gun season.

I was always an opening day dude, father-in-law, brother, kiddos when we had them.

Never did very well but put some "brown down", hunting i think 2003 or 4 opener it was a-sucking like this fng deluge throughout Monday. Webt out and Sat, almost killed a buck but rain had soaked through some pin holes in my Desert camo goretex... traditional deer camp, vs quality hunting. Both are great when the WX cooperates.

I am hopeful that Tues cools down more and you guys get some snow that sticks instead of just sleet and more rain.

My boy and his grandpa who was sitting with him when got his first deer.

No, but it's something we should consider one of these days. Problem being how overran all public land is and the safety issues it brings on.

I use a sandwich bag to keep moisture out of the muzzle. Keep it on with a rubber band.

I'm not sure what to think about gun season numbers around here. There's hardly been anybody hunting archery. Im thinking they are just waiting for gun season.

I’m right there with ya buddy. . My fondest hunting memories involve deer camp with family and gun season. I am going to try my hardest to create that again someday for Warner.
I am in the same boat, I tried starting a tradition with some of my closest friends, they're just "too busy". I would give up hunting my private property for a old school deer camp on state property, with a group of good guys and their boys

I change my statement now. Rain most of the state now branches are turning white here but it's nasty out guys won't get rolling until it's all snow.

Surprising with the bad WX Mon - the snow must have made up for it!

The harvest total during the traditional statewide gun season was 63,567 deer, 4.6% less than the three-year average in 2019.

Ohio's hunters killed 71,650 white-tailed deer during the annual gun hunting week that ended Sunday, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division of Wildlife.
