No doubt, Gordo!

I've got to tell you guys this, as it's just funny and a testament to Excalibur.

After it was decided we were for sure going to hunt last night, I went out to check the zero on the Excalibur. We shot it a few times when Phil was down as Garrett needed to use it after a malfunction with their Horton. It was shooting a bit high, so I put a few twists in the string and fooled with it a bit. My mind was so focused on Mason getting a shot, and I was sure he would, my heart was thumping a lil faster than normal and my mind was racing just getting the xbow shooting as I wanted it to. Finally, I ran around to the target at the back of the garage, cocked the xbow, put the crosshairs where I wanted and fired....without an arrah! Wth? I didn't hear a thump... oh, I need an arrah.... Checked the bow, all was well, amazingly. I have NEVER dry fired this thing, but my mind was not right.

So, Mason got home from school, I told him we were going and wanted him to fire a couple shots from the crossbow. He was all giddy, we run around the garage, set him up, thunk.... ooops, forgot the arrah again! Holy crap, how'd I do that again?!?! Looked the bow over, all seemed fine, cocked it and actually put an arrah on the thing and watched Mason shoot bullseyes at 30. I'm amazed I didn't blow the thing up. Maybe Excalibur really is a tough as they claim! Even someone who's mind is completely elsewhere can't screw 'em up!

I'll be sending them an email with my appreciation noted!

Brock, I'm sorry but that last post had me smiling purty good! We've all been absent-minded before and have plenty of DOLP moments and that was definitely one of yours! Understandably though, you guys were on a mission and you'z burnin daylight! Lol
It's amazingly and awesome as well that it didn't blow up or break something on it!!! Hope tonight's the night! Good luck!!!:pickle:

Honestly, as we sat waiting last night, by 630 I was a nervous wreck. I just knew he was coming, but when the rain started pouring down we had to go. Seriously, this is only the second time I have been that nutty to get to the woods. One day last year, when we had watched one of the target bucks go into a thicket, I was just about as goofy that day too, after dropping a frozen Mason off at home. Just KNEW it was going to happen, but it didn't on either occasion. Maybe next time I get giddy, it will work out. :) Hopefully I won't wreck the truck on the way, or break our gear, or a leg... Just wasn't in my right mind at all. :)

Milo got to fix my bow from a dry fire once. Got distracted by one of the kids. Resumed shooting when he left. Forgot my arrow. What a sickening sound and feeling. Glad the Excalibur held up. I am still considering buying one for Garrett to avoid any future issues with the Horton should parts availability become an issue.

Well, as you know, I thought pretty highly of the thing before this. Having dry-fired it twice with no apparent damage, my opinion is even higher, if that's possible.

Mason and I have kept ourselves busy picking up apples, shooting our bows, scouting, hunting different properties... waiting on a good wind. Hoping to get out tomorrow.

Yesterday, we hunted a piece that is a good travel corridor. We didn't see a deer. Mason did make a fabulous shot on a squirrel, but did not connect. It appeared he did, it was that close. We also saw three coons, along with a bunch of squirrels. Would have been fun to have more arrows or a shotgun!

I'm already a wreck. Mason has decided he is not going to shoot that wide 10! A buddy sent me a pic of "Mason's buck", also known as Tines. He is apparently spending his time across the road from where we've been looking. Mason only shot at the wide 10 because we had not been able to find "Tines". I'm working on getting permission on a little piece of ground where I want to set up on him. I have permission on 2 of 3 properties there, and we could probably get a crack at him, but Mason refuses to hunt there due to me not having permission yet on the 3rd property. He said he would be too tempted to shoot across that fence if Tines walked through the corner! I've spoken with the landowner's brother, his nephew, and one of the landowners I'm hunting on even tried to get in contact with him, but we've not made the connection yet. I know nearly everyone in this guy's immediate family, even gather apples at his nephew's place, but have yet to meet him! Good grief, finding this guy is tough! Mason thinks he is hunting an unkillable deer, but doesn't want to give up on him this early in the season. And, the way bucks have been showing up lately, he's liable to find his way back home soon. I'll give Mason props, he is persistent.

Mason is the funniest dang kid I have ever ran into. No clue why he is the way he is. His dad has told me time and time again; he does not put his heart and all his effort into one deer. He waits for a good one to walk by and shoots it.
His mother on the other hand works 120 hours a week because Brock wont go to the shop.
The kid is a man of his words. If he says he isn't going to pass a 160 he will. If he says he is going to beam you in the face with a ball you better run. Haha

I'm so freaking pumped up right now! Oh sure, tonight I'm in the hotseat, and may even get a crack at a really nice whitetail, but more importantly.... I GOT FREAKING PERMISSION!!!!!!!!!!!

This little nugget is right in line with the way Tines has hid himself before...close to homes! Holy crap I'm excited as I've ever been. I finally caught the landowner, he told his brother Saturday it would be fine for us to hunt, his brother had just not called back yet. I wanted to meet the guy anyway, so it worked out. I dumped a couple hundred pounds of apples, picked a tree, and hung a camera over the apples. This is the slickest in and out deal to a stand we have EVER had, I think. The stand will be in a maple, on the fence line, at the corner of corn, wooded thicket (where he's been getting his pic taken), and standing cornfield. About as heavy a trail as I've seen all year dumps into that standing corn field. We will cross a cut bean field, the deer in the thicket shouldn't have a clue anyone is around. We don't even have to cross a fence! WOOOHOOOO! Cable guy is coming tomorrow morning, I plan to have the stands (which I have to go buy) set tomorrow afternoon! Feels so good to be back after this big sucker!
