Can of Worms or Good Idea?

As hot and dry as it has been the last few weeks, I came up with a "watering hole" idea. It's one of those "under the bed" storage tubs with a water pump that has a spitting fish circulating the water. :) I didn't want to get a tub that was too deep, for fear I'd be fishing dead/drowned critter bodies out of the thing. The deer walk thru here all the time, so maybe this will be a regular stop for them to get a drink.
I'm going to watch and wait, to see what kind of critters show up. This ain't gonna be a coon swimming hole! 🚫

Hopefully this won't be a can of worms and ends up being beneficial to the deer and other critters. 🥰

I think the only thing you’re going to accomplish with that setup is a nice population of algae and eventually some mosquitoes. Sorry.

Put a large stick in it so critters can climb out if needed. Also put a piece of copper in the water, it will help control the algae. You gonna need a water source or way to get water to it regularly. The fountain will cause a lot of evaporation. Deer will use it unless you have a stream or pond in the vicinity.

All good ideas, but it's only 6" deep and about 40 feet from my back door. I figured I'll have to add a gallon or so of water each day and I have an extension cord running the water pump going thru the "spitting fish". Algae is going to be a standard and as long as there's no skeeter population I'll be happy with how it goes. My main concern was going to be coons playing in it, clogging up the pump with whatever they drag into the tub.

The nearest water source is across a main highway and with the fawns hanging around, I was thinking I may get some closer photos of them and/or some of the bucks in the area.:cool:

@giles
I willfully admit to having too much time on my hands. :ROFLMAO: Retirement sucks....🥳
I'd like to get another motorcycle, but I'd never get off of it....like the last one I had, as long as I had good road conditions I was riding. :sneaky: I get bored fishing, even from a kayak. I have the silly luck of catching more fish, bigger fish and get bored with it. Sounds nutz and I can't explain it. I may buy another bass guitar, hook up with a few bands and ride that wave for a while....again.....but that won't happen until after deer season. (y)

After dealing with the ticks I had this year, 40 feet is way too close for any tick/flea bag to be near my house!

My dad has a little feeder bowl that he buys deer corn and puts food acraps in about that distance from his back door. I tell him all the time he is nuts. He is also retired. Ironically enough, he also bought this for the local electric motor only lake!! 🤣🤣

My dad is 68 and he gets so much stuff done. He just put a subwoofer system in his lowered 2005 Mustang with straight pipe exhaust. I swear his immature mentality is what's keeping him young!

So keep it up with the projects bowhunter! Keep your brain and body busy!
I just signed up for Medicare myself. I played real hard till I was 28, then settled down and raised a family while building my business. I NEVER grew up, just suppressed the youth in me. I am now entering my 2nd puberty with the adult "governor" dialed back for more fun. I have the time and the money now, along with what is left of my good health! I intend to enjoy the (maybe) 10 years of good health that remain...That is until my "get up and go" gets up and leaves.

I'm making too good a living to shut it down completely and the .gov limits my earnings before I reach 66 and 8 months in 2025 if I take Social Security early. I may start it next year and hire my bride to do some office work and dump money into retirement accounts for her and I to limit my adjusted gross so I ain't paying .gov more, nor having SS take back my benefits. We can each make about 22K adj gross before they whack me, but there is a combined earnings thing also at about 33K so my tax man has to sharpen his pencil on that for me

Once I get that figured out every day becomes Saturday with a long weekend and I will get recess every morning and afternoon!

Now, in the year I turn 66.8 I can earn 56k. That means, since my wife is a year older she can earn 56k next year as she will be 66.6 next year. Thing is, they have a combined earnings limit.

It is like Chinese Algebra trying to figure this stuff out.

Once I reach full retirement age, in future years I can earn unlimited amounts, yet they will still TAX my SS money at 50% or 80% depending on another set of earnings tests. Figuring this out i like trying to learn Latin. Nobody understands it and almost nobody can explain it!

Carpe diem!
