Change coming to Ohio life time license

Jesus Christ... You guys would bitch about anything wouldn't you?

This is a convenient option for some people... Not ALL. If you don't like it don't buy one. If you're older than 60, you probably shouldn't buy one. If you're 40 and under, and don't see yourself going anywhere, it's a no-brainer. As far as kids go, buy it now and they're good to go. They'll be apprentice status until they pass hunter Ed, then the license updates and they get a new card when they're 18.

It largely depends on your current age whether it is worth buying or not obviously. Do I see an incentive or money savings at my current age of 44 to shell out almost 500 dollars to guarantee that I wont ever have to buy a hunting license again..oh wait....yea I will if I decide to hunt turkeys and deer. I see no reason to spend the money at my age. I bought a comprehensive lifetime Indiana hunting license back when I was in college and was a resident of Indiana..and that is good for life no matter where I live...and it includes every deer and Turkey tag the state offers..every single year. It absolutely paid for itself and was worth the initial money of 550 dollars at the time. But come on OHIO ODNR...what is the real incentive here for thr vast majority of Ohio hunters over the age of 30 if you arent including deer or turkey tags with this license?!

Huh. It's almost like people are independent thinkers free to form their own opinions or something. Strange.

It would also be convenient for me to pay my monthly cable bill a year in advance. But I don't because there's zero incentive to do so. I don't view the 5 minutes a year I spend buying a license as "inconvenient" as its quite simply the most convenient process ever.

Now for my kids and I it might make sense because I plan to move to a different state. However I very well may come back quite often to hunt with family and friends. A lifetime license at $450 produces a cost benefit within 4 years of not having to buy a NR license. Add kids on that and it begins to show substantial savings. Now If I planned to live here it would take me 19 years to break even. Hardly worth it unless prices go up substantially later. Who knows, in 10 years the DNR could have the hunting so fucked up in this state I just decide to fish instead.

19 years at the CURRENT rate, which is long overdue for an increase. I understand if you don't feel it's worthwhile for YOU, but that doesn't mean it's a stupid idea or that there's no incentive. There is an obvious incentive for anyone hunting more than 20 years... Maybe less if/when the price goes up. And increased license sales dollars equates to increased utilization of federal PR dollars. More money for land acquisition and land management. If you don't see an incentive in that I don't know what to tell you.

I see it more as an investment for the future of our hunting populace than something to benefit those of us currently in the trenches. As JB says, it's good for some and for those that don't like it, no one is forcing you to buy one.

Including deer and turkey tags would be sweet! Unfortunately I don't have $500 laying around to shell out for a lifetime hunting license so I'll either go with the ten year, or just buy every year like I have been.

Why would they have the LTL and not come with tags. Seems counter productive to me. So there really isn’t a reason to buy one, what for a basic hunting license so you can only hunt tree rats? No thanks.

So everyone should just shut-up and not discuss their opinion of it because YOU think it makes sense and has incentives? And if anyone dare share their opinion they're just bitching complainers? come on now..

My exact point. I would rather take 480 dollars now and use it to buy a new bow or shotgun. Make it a selling point by including something that will save you money down the road like other states have done and then it would be worth it. But to say its going to be more convenient is a poor selling point. You still are going to have to go through the license buying process to purchase deer and turkey tags.
