At this point in the game, it’s more of a power play. Not so much wanting too save anyone.
Cleveland Clinic Children’s Hospital before the outbreak of the pandemic.

The family decided to wait a little longer before having Tanner undergo the transplant since transplanted kidneys from a live donor only lasted about 20 years
Could have done it in 2018 - kid will need another one in 20 or so years.

There's a big picture here I'm not seeing. I went to the clinic every 8 weeks for eye injection during the pandemic and have never been asked if I was vaccinated. Its a 3 hour procedure had to mask up

Get the jab save your kids life and go to hell. Amazing that they put this surgery off when they had a chance.

They put it off to give their kind the most time possible. The kidney will only work for about 20 years before he needs another one at what would have been age 27. The next time the dad can't donate as he only has one. So they decided to wait so their son could get time out of his existing kidney before the transplant. Then covid happened and there have been delays there also. Now that it's over the hospital wants to kill the kid because dad might get covid during the transplant surgery. The kid is obviously vaccinated as the article mentions nothing about his unvaccinated status being a problem. It's absolutely preposterous that they would draw such a line in the sand with a vaccine that their own data show is no better and likely worse than natural immunity. They shouldn't get to play God with the life of a 9 year old over such bs.

The kid would need another transplant anyway, your only talking about 4 years difference. With only 18% function no logic to the decision to delay the transplant. Its on the Dad not the hospital. The hospital has 1000's of patients and staff to consider. Pop shoud take care of his family

And all the staff are required the shot, so they should be good too go…. If anyone would be at risk (although minimally) would be the dad.

No one should be forced to take a vaccine that by not taking would only affect himself, this is purely a bullshit power play do what you are told situation.

Yeah fuck dad for wanting to give his kid 4 more years of life before the kid needs another transplant. I know lots of people who throw away their toothpaste with 1/5 of it left so they can start using the new tube in the drawer. 🙄. You're straw manning the situation. The bottom line is the Cleveland clinic is willing to kill a 9 year old child who has a perfect match donor over a principal that has been debunked by their own research. There is a small slight potential risk to the dad, there is a certain guaranteed risk to the kid. Yet they're willing to stand on the kids grave over a minute risk to the dad that should be a personal health decision. They fully admitted they would harvest a kidney from a dead unvaccinated donor, and they don't lock the door and refuse treatment to a car crash victim to let them die in the parking lot if they're unvaccinated. This is no different. The kid needs it, there is a donor, they shouldn't have the ability to deny a life saving procedure because dad might get a bad cold.

beauracracy vs. personal choice (aka, freedom) is bad for all of us no matter how you slice it. worse still when it comes to health care. Dad better find a hosptital in Texas or Florida that still exercises common sense and actual scientific fact for the basis of their policies. Sorry Geezer, but I think you are plain dead wrong about this one.

No need to be sorry. Dad has been fucking around with his kids transplant for a year wtf. Dad worrying about himself. Take care of your kid Dad you only get so many chances. Get the jab Dad and hopefully a successful transplant and save your son.
There has been many hospitals that have denied transplant surgery because of no vaccinations. SAVE THE KID and hopefully this bullshit will get sorted out. Donn't make a pawn out of the kid

Those hospitals denied transplants because the recipient was unvaccinated. Their reasoning is backed by medical reality. A transplant recipient has to take massive immunosuppressive drugs to prevent rejection which would leave them vulnerable to infection which may damage the organ. As such the organ is better suited for a vaccinated recipient. THAT makes medical sense. This is not that situation. They're willing to kill a child because the donor isn't vaccinated, even though they're willing to take organs from unvaccinated donors who are dead.

Dad isn't fucking around with anything. A person should not be forced to get a shot before a hospital is willing to save a kid's life. Dad could walk into the hospital with his organ donor paperwork and shoot himself in the head and they would do the transplant. But they won't if he's alive because he might get a bad cold, even though he's willing to sign indemnification paperwork to hold the hospital harmless if that happened. The bottom line is the hospital is playing God and is willing to kill a kid to force a medical procedure on a completely different person.
