CWD Wyandot County

This has been stuck in my head all day. What if we don't ban it, but regulate it?

No piles

Broadcast only

No minerals

Because things like apples, acorns, field corn aren't the problem here.

Likely they will look at states that are already battling it and quickly jump on the same bandwagon right or wrong. Michigan first did exactly what you mentioned, limited to 2 gallons of bait spread over a 10 ft. x 10 ft. or more area. Didn't take but another couple cases in wild deer for them to ban it completely for the entire lower peninsula. Minerals were banned right away when it was captive deer that had it.

I am all for the ban. My only concern is the recruitment of the future hunters. I was just brainstorming a different option. Some people would never kill a deer with baiting.

And I’m totally fine with that. More deer to go around for the rest of the folks who actually possess some level of woodsmanship. Kids and new hunters in general can be recruited without baiting the deer. That’s just a result of our overall laziness and desire for immediate satisfaction as a society. Teach kids about hunting, not just about shooting.

I like it! 👍

Time to teach a generation about how hard work and dedication.

I'm not sure banning bait is gonna help. Deer are constantly licking and rubbing one another. I watched 7 does in a bean field last night eat out of the same 3ft by 3ft bean stubble. I'd say at some time a ban will happen but there's to much money in it. And no matter what is said they still want the deer shot. A bait ban will knock the harvest numbers down big time. I throw corn and minerals for pics mostly I could go either way with it.

yep. I agree 100%. Imagine the CWD transferred from a licking branch or two bucks fighting being nose to nose.... I am find with banning bait but the idea that it'll have some major impact on reducing the spread seems a bit quixotic to me.

I will say this, I support a ban because I 100% know that the area I hunt, would hunt much better without neighbors baiting. My food plots would be 10X the draw they are now and deer would be WAY more likely to frequent them in daylight vs. being able to eat the neighbors corn pile next to their bedroom.
