Death of college sports as we know it?

Now that the ACC stands for All Coast Conference are we seeing the beginning of the end of the way college sports had been? Are we headed for 3-4 huge conferences? This is horrible for student athletes and their families. Flying cross the country for a midweek game in any sport is nuts. Forget watching your child play. Sad that it is al about the money.

one thing for sure the PAC 2 is dead

I agree with you about all the reconferencing and longer trips for road games, but I find it interesting that that's your complaint with college sports nowadays and not the NIL deals worth millions of dollars going to these kids.

I don't really have a problem with the people producing the product sharing in the revenue they help create. All the money had been shaping and changing college sports for a long time, and not in a good way.

I would tend to agree if college sports were not a billion dollar industry and head coaches were not making millions and some 10s of millions a year. If a player is the reason people by a certain numbered jersey they should get a cut of that. If a player's likeness is used they should get a cut of that. Now I would not be opposed to their scholarship money coming out of the money they make.

Correct, the goal of college should be the education. Millions of Americans go into lifetime debt to get that same education. These kids should not be making money. That is a laugh in the face of the majority.

So if that kid is good enough and can make ten grand off of an organized autograph signing, he should be forbidden?

IMO, if a college player wants to sign an autograph and get a few bucks, go for it. But they shouldn't receive a quarter million for going to a car lot or something to sign autographs. How one would police that... I dont know. That's for the colleges and the NCAA to figure out.

If you are that good and in it for the money, get out of the way and go pro.
If you're that good of course your in it for the money. They have to play 3 years before entering NFL. Basketball is one year. It's mostly only a discussion in those two sports. For the most part, these kids aren't out doing commercials and autographs during season, so it shouldn't be affecting the team

Change it to a year. Let the elite be elite and get paid for it. Let the other kids be kids and enjoy the game. If we are going to make it about money, make it about money. Otherwise we can just treat them all the same and no one makes money until you fulfill your commitment.

I think the difference is they can play basketball for a year and go play in the NBA and be just fine. Try that with football and those grown ass men will kill those kids. NFL is on a whole other level of tactic, skill and speed.

I don’t even know where to start with all you ass holes. The super conferences are dumb and @Clay Showalter is correct (I don’t say that very often). As for the NIL money I think there should be a cap of 100k and only 1 transfer, student athletes should get to decide who does their surgery within the state, and we should get 8 years of opportunity of paid classes to earn our degrees (many of us go the easy route because it’s impossible to handle the class load of real difficult majors while playing a d1 sports).

Also D1 schools should offer their scholarship athletes a skilled trade option through the college, as many of us are suited more for the trades and not the classroom. If college running back wants to learn how to be a plumber, electrician, etc and not a pointless major in history, let him. I don’t understand y this hasn’t been done yet

Listened to portions of the Buckeye game while driving. Didn't like what I heard. "QB started at Michigan, went to Wake Forest, and is now getting some reps here at Indiana." I don't have an issue with a kid transferring. Switching year to year and school to school? Draw the line somewhere. Same with the money. Cap it. If a player is getting that sort of coin, then yank their scholarship and give it to a kid playing ball to get an education. Some of this is out of hand.

Or here’s an idea….. Shut the shit down, all collegiate sports programs….. Make them what they’re actually supposed too be…. Higher education…..
NFL and other leagues can create minor leagues if they wan too…. Put it on the end product who reaps the benefits….
