Looks like we and ZJ are gonna make it out for awhile, won't be until closer to noon, though. Hope to see some of you still there!

I wanted to sit in on the LaPratt seminar but just didn't feel like sitting through another one. What topics did he cover?

He was justing started and ran out of time. He covered a ton but not a lot of specifics on any of it.

Essentially he posted stats about his property when food plots only versus total land management. Similar sized deer, but he sees more bucks and finds more sheds now. He used to hunt 30-60 days to kill his buck but now hunts 2-5 days. Posted sketches of layout where he used to have plots only versus now with more bedding areas. It was more a macro look at big picture stuff than it was a micro look at specifically how to keep the deer on your property. Definitely made you think. Just not a lot of answers on "how to". Tough to spit it all out in 45min. Then there were the obligatory plugs for his boot camp. Guess I can't blame him there. He was at the expo to pick up business I would imagine.

Just got back. My BIL(Tim) his son and his brothers son rode up with me. Got to finally meet Huck and shake his paw!lol Glad to see Joe,Charles,JohnR,Rick,Diane,Z and Seth(Lonewolfnopack). Seth and I talked shed hunting over lunch and had a great first time visit.

I unloaded some cash on some Predator camo(rainproof bibs, fleece jacket and pants in brown deception. I also stopped by Whiteknuckleproductions and met Todd for the first time and snagged me a Wicked saw.

Glad I went and had a good time seeing my TOO brothers and sista!

The deer wall was very impressive with all the high end bucks killed this past season. Still befuddles me how so many great bucks get mounted so poorly. Oh well, I'm a stickler for detail TOO but some of them I'd be ashamed to show.

I agree! If I ever got a buck back and it looked like some of the ones I saw there.....I would dismantle the rack from the form right then and there and tell the taxi NO THANKS. Did you see this one? This is a buck i saw in that ohio based news paper killed on a metro draw hunt and was mounted by John Garren at Pine Ridge. I thought it was a very impressive buck

Yes I did Corey, very impressive indeed. This was the first time I never took any pics of deer. Carrying around all my purchases I didn't have a free hand! Lol

So many great deer to choose from as far as labeling it as my favorite but one did have me stop and pic up my jaw. It was a late arrival and had an extremely impressive right side. The narrow nontypical frame scored 193 but if the other side was as equally impressive it would have been 210+, according to the scorer helping hang it.
There was a few with super browtines as well.

Had a good time seeing everyone and walking around with Joe. We only had to tell one dude that we weren't together lol.

Got the Keystone call I wanted and picked up a pair of predator pants...they are gay cut and too small despite looking at the chart.

I noticed the same on some of the mounts. I have had two mounted and am far from an expert. Would consider myself minimally educated on taxidermy mounts, yet some were glaringly obvious. I just shook my head. Nearly 200" deer and it looked like someone tried to do it themselves. Truly sad.

.

It was nice to meet everyone at the expo Sunday.. It was nice to put some faces with some names and it's always good to meet people again.. I picked up a Muddy harness, Jelly head choke for the new gun, a bow sling, and two zink diaphragm calls for turks.

I would have to say the highlight was at the keystone booth when the sales model girl asked huck if he wanted the big one or the small one. He said he wasn't sure and wanted to try them both. She said the hens love the big one. I replied "Get the big one huck, everyone knows women love big ones. I bet turkeys ain't no different.. You get the big one and they'll come running."" (He's testing the call) "Play that Milkshake song! It'll bring all the hens to the yard, especially if you got a big one! Come on play it!"" I then proceed to mouth yelp the milkshake song .. That woman didn't crack a smile.. Believe this? Nada.. Nothing.. Zero. I wanted to tell her there was a booth in the back selling smiles and she needed to go visit.

edit: come to think about it, it's not entirely impossible she didn't hear me tell huck before we walked up to the booth "i bet she's a gobbler" But we we're still 15 feet away.. :smiley_depressive:

More and more outfitters less and less product companies. But I did pick up a Muddy harness in camo with linemans belt for 70 bucks, A Jelly head benelli choke for hevi shot for $30 (bellas $59), and two Zink diaphragm calls for $7 each (regular $10)
