Diesel truck info.

Giles got a trade in offer on an 06 mega cab, salvage title, 4th tranny with 140k+ miles for $18k. The used truck market is crazy right now!! (Not throwing him under the bus, he posted that in his thread).
I remember that. Shoot, that truck doesn't even have a bed to use. Lol. Sorry Dave. Just messing with you.

I think the point has been made to Joe. A Toyota will do the same for him in regards to resale if he plans on running it 3 yrs and rolling it. It will also do the towing he speaks of with no issues. It truly is worth looking into.

Back on track- my understanding is the Dodge automatic transmission issues have been rectified on the newer trucks. They don't get the mileage of the older ones but I couldn't offer real world numbers. I personally like the look of the new Chevy trucks. I still wouldn't own a Duramax. (Sorry Adam.) Too many horror stories of $3000 repair jobs to swap a sensor. For the same reasons, I wouldn't own a newer Ford. Pull the cab for any major work? Who's engineering screw up was that?

I'm scared of any of the post 2007 diesels. To meet emissions, they added too much restriction. To compensate they built these trucks with more torque and HP. In order to do so the tolerances are slimmer. They are pushing them harder. The 500,000 mile days are gone (in my eyes.)

I hear ya Dave, just gentle ribbing since you can't make the decision lol.

Phil, no worries, but I have never heard of a $3k sensor replacement on any of the models lol. That's a poor chap that got it good from a dealer because they can't/won't turn a wrench. Injectors for LB7's, overheating on LLY's, then emissions kinks during 2011. I believe pump rub in transfer case was cured in 08 with a case material change. Agree that the 15+'s look good.

Joe, see the trend yet? If interested in a diesel between the 2 OEM's listed, get a Dodge over a Ford. EGRs, TPSs, and extensive emissions issues have hurt Ford. Not to mention, the twin turbo 6.4s are dogs and mpg is laughable. The 6.0 is a good motor when deleted.

Rut road shaggy.

2013 with 56k miles. Listed at 30k.

I know you WANT the bigass nice diesel.
But my thought was "Why don't he buy a used Accord or Camry to zip back'n'forth to work in, then buy him a Tundra for his truck needs?" the jap sedan would save you on gas, and keep the miles off the truck.

For the record, I got a 2011 4wd double cab (not crew) Tundra with rubber floors and vinyl seats (contractor type). When I clean up the interior she looks almost new. If I'd gotten carpet I would have had a shit anuerism the first time I got it stained. I paid $28k I think. It's at 119K miles and I have had ZERO problems. Not spent a dime on anything other than oil changes/brakes/tires. Not a single problem. And when we buy the wife a new car here in a month or two, it gets parked and I'll drive her Accord as a beater back n forth to work. Use the truck for hunting/travel/truck stuff. Maybe get myself a new one in 2031.

But Joe, what you really want is a diesel. :smiley_coolpeace: And I don't think it's about the resale value either.
The heart wants what the heart wants.

(you should really buy a Tundra)

To think 6 months ago I bought a 2001 Tundra V8 2 wheel drive extended cab with 52K miles for $6000.
Don't need diesel or 4 wheel drive for my needs. Had original tires so changed those out.
I have a extra $30000 to spend on gas in the future. Good deals are out when found.

If I was going to go that route I would look for a 150k plus high mileage truck to park and a 400+ HP car to drive. Honestly I spend 2 hours a day in a vehicle commuting. In a month of commuting that's an extra 40 hour work week spent in a car. If I had to do that in an Accord I would likely give up on life. I couldn't do it. The only reason I drive a car now is the horsepower and cornering fun factor

Gee slow down, relax and enjoy life. I have a 2003 Nisson 350Z with 24K miles that I drive for fun and relax at 70 MPH.
