Boys I hope I didn’t piss anyone off on this thread, I respect everyone on this site and it’s really the only place I feel comfortable debating such things for obvious reason. I’ve sort of been all over the place on this thread, some what as a troll or playing devils advocate or whatever, mainly because I like looking at all sides of argument.

I was union for nearly 40 years. If management could fire or let POS workers go without unions fighting for them then unions shops wouldn’t look so bad. Good workers wouldn’t have to swing wide to make up for being shorthanded, good workers wouldn’t see slobs getting paid the same rate for doing nothing and shit would get done and everyone would be happy. Union Stewards shouldn’t act as lawyers getting lowlifes off and back to work with back pay, AL and SL for them to start the POS work ethics all over again.
Thats my 2 on subject.
Jon is right though as I imagine ALL jobs have good and bad workers. It comes down to how a person was raised I guess. Pride and dedication counts to.

I am union and basically always have while working a trade. Having a family name helps the shitbags. For the pay and benefits, it is worth carrying those guys. You aren't going to change it so if you want the perks of higher pay, good insurance and good retirement, work harder. My kids are entering the workforce and I'd love to see them own their own businesses. But if they don't, I hope they find a union they like.

No anger here. Nobody is listening to us anyway. 🤣

I'm glad Giles chimed in. He provided first hand positive feedback. Like you, I want to hear all the sides as well. It's been 27yrs of self employment, 25yrs since I've been in a union. (There was an overlap where two years of health insurance was handy as I started my business.) I'm sure some things have changed although I remain in regular contact with a couple of former co-workers. They keep me updated some.

I will also add that the teamsters started all this. Now all these other guys want a piece of it. Delivery drivers making more money than longshore pissed them off. In truth of that is they kinda do the same thing on a more massive level. 50% tho, come on now you greedy bastards.

Like my short answer earlier, let the military take it over. Be a good job for them. Not that they are great at alot of things, but they sure can mobilize. That would be the reaction I would have to the greed. Shut up and get to work or look for another job. The greed isn't doing anything but furthering the crippling of the US economy. We already can't hardly afford a new truck. Now these ass hats are going to increase the cost of that. Well, guess what. Our government needs to make a little money too right now. Let these crybabies go home and let the .gov make a little money so they can give America a tax break on OT. That'll be a real help to blue collar America across the board. Thanks for your real American input Mr longshore.

I don't care if they went on strike. "We need higher pay for the service the longshoremen provide" would have gone over better than I will cripple you...I don't know if he thought that through. He isn't talking about a foreign enemy, he is talking about his own country and the people within it. Regardless if a fair agreement was made, bad taste firmly planted. What is with people these days and their power trips?!

Wtf does clout mean? I'm just an idiot that overthinks easy shit but makes good sense on harder decisions. This seems like a simple solution. Union is trying to bully Americans, well buddy ole pale, we no longer need you. How did that work out for you? Want a job? Welcome to tricare.

It was a joke. You suggested the military take over the ports. DeSantis made that happen. The implication is that he did that because you told him to. That you are powerful enough to make heads of state pay attention. It wasn't an insult or sarcastic. I promise!

It was more like "Oh shit! Don't cross @giles! He'll memory hole your ass!" :)

I was joking so I sounded dumb.
