Doggone good dog thread

I was out salting tonight. This big ol dog wanders around the corner. Caught me off guard. Heavy commercial area. No really close houses. I opened the door because he was walking towards the truck. We get a feel for each other. I realize he isn't vicious. He is just happy to see a sign of other life at 3am. Rubbed his ears to warm them up. Called dog warden. No emergency number. Called sheriff. Read them the tag number. She asked if the dog would answer to "Sadie." I told her she might but Sadie has a penis so that's probably not "her" name. Then I find another tag with a phone number. Read it to the officer. They reached the owner. Hung out in the truck where the dog was chill as could be. An absolute sweetheart of a dog. Owner shows up at 323am. "Willie" was his name..I told the PD it was a black dog that looked doberman or maybe great Dane. The owner said Willie was a dober Dane. I guessed it spot on. If he walked in a straight line from where his owner said they lived, it was a 1.68 Mike walk. I don't know many dogs that can walk in a straight line. He did some running tonight. Lol
I am sure the owner really appreciated you taking the time to locate him
Owner acted like it was a common occurrence. He was wearing two electronic collars. Said he had just charged the one recently. Also said "this is the furthest he's made it." Pleasant guy for 3-330am. Maybe 65-70 years old. Not really the over the top thank you a person might expect for recovering their dog with temps in the teens. I think the majority of dog owners would have been profusely spewing thank you's. Made me wonder if it was due to a 3am call from the sheriff? Or maybe Willie deserves a more concerned owner? I'll write it off as: owner was dragged out of bed at 3am by a wake up call from the sheriff.
I have been to the point of realizing a dog was more than I could handle before. Maybe that is what it was. I runaway dog for a person that age is alot to handle. Could also just be watching the dog for a kid or grandkids. Or like my case, my damn wife's mutt that always becomes my damn problem!
