Reigning WGSD tracking champion in Carrol county Ohio! She’s netted a percent find rate!
She retired shortly after this due to little or no competition. Or I just didn’t need to have her track anymore.

What’s the odds of that? A dead deer and a white coyote! Ken where you at?

Has anyone ever had a lab that you could leave food in their bowl 24x7 ? This new pup is unlike any lab I've ever owned. We can put 3 cups of kibble in her bowl in the morning and she will graze around eating a mouthful here and there throughout the day. She just doesn't care.

That’s been every lab I’ve had. Always have food available from day 1. Never over eat or become obese. My thinking is feeding them you don’t create the hunger driver to eat everything in front of them.

I have buddies that feed on a schedule and will eat everything in sight. If you leave anything out they are on it like a vulture. Couple years ago a buddy left a 40# bag of food out. Dog would eat and throw up and eat it back, never stopping.

This is pearl at almost 9 years old.

Our lab was like that for a couple years then started to eat the whole bowl, so we had to go to morning and evening feeding.
Bristol was the same way when we first got her, then when we moved here she switched….

Our labs were like that until we started having multiple dogs. Then they started eating for competition.

My current and last weiners were grazers. One cup lasts all day long and come and go as you please.

If having kids doesn't create a sober reminder of how fast time flies, having dogs certainly will. It sure doesn't feel like 7 years have passed since we called dibs on a pup out of this litter, and knowing Lulu turn 10 in June is just as hard to fathom. We're incredibly fortunate that Bailey healed up after her accident without any noticeable issues. She's still as fast as she was before the broken pelvis, which is a big relief.

Moonshine is like still that since he was a pup. He has a mind of his own on when to eat when he wants to. Worked out for me

Every lab I’ve owned eats like a shop vac. Literally, as fast as they can without bothering to chew. My oldest changed her ways after her litter of pups at 8 years old though… since then she has eaten “normally.”

I agree that the ravenous approach comes with a list of problems. Couple that issue with young kids and food getting spilled/tossed on the floor constantly, and dogs turn into heathens really quickly. The only advantage to this is the resulting ‘ease of feeding’ when on a trip with lots of travel. My dogs eat whenever I put the food in front of them, regardless of travel time, location, etc. Conversely, I’ve hunted with friends whose dogs absolutely refused to eat whenever on the road traveling, and that causes its own set of problems.
