Every lab I’ve owned eats like a shop vac. Literally, as fast as they can without bothering to chew. My oldest changed her ways after her litter of pups at 8 years old though… since then she has eaten “normally.”
I agree that the ravenous approach comes with a list of problems. Couple that issue with young kids and food getting spilled/tossed on the floor constantly, and dogs turn into heathens really quickly. The only advantage to this is the resulting ‘ease of feeding’ when on a trip with lots of travel. My dogs eat whenever I put the food in front of them, regardless of travel time, location, etc. Conversely, I’ve hunted with friends whose dogs absolutely refused to eat whenever on the road traveling, and that causes its own set of problems.
