Lundy, have we had the crossbow/oba discussion in person a time or two? I know exactly what club you are referring to, and have had that chat several times with a past president. Now, that's a topic that gets people more knotted up than a population debate!:smiley_crocodile:

Very well may have talked in person about this. My stated opinion on that subject was not popular back then at all and isn't much more popular today. I remember one very well. It was a 2 hr heated discussion with my traditional brethren one morning at a Ross County bow shoot. I haven't heard that much MFing at one time until yesterday on here:smile: I do appreciate everyone's passion. I much prefer that over apathy

I'm sure we know many of the same people. I shot all of the District 1 Round Robins and all of the IBO Triple Crowns. I shot somewhere in excess of 45 weekends a year for almost 15 years straight.

I'm sure we do. I have been out of the shooting game for the last couple of seasons. Haven't shot the IBO in several years(got the belt buckle and quite:smiley_bril:) I only shot a couple of shoots last year locally, but plan to step it up a bit this year. I'll look for you in Lockbourne...

I really should get a chair... Maybe those folks wouldn't tick me off so bad if I were more comfortable while waiting for them to study the target so's they can shoot an 8!

Great points by all! Seems a bit more level headed and open minded than we started out. lol

Now onto the next dilemma. How the heck can we convey these points to the ODNR and actually get some sort of acknowledgement out of them? If they are in complete denial, then we can talk until we are blue in the face and it won't matter.

I really liked Scott's points. Not sure if it was him or not, but I agree with the point about hunters answering the questionaire as well. They aren't seeing deer and they are going to look at an extra gun season as a good thing.

Hicks, I'm afraid were gonna have to grab them by the throat and threaten to beat them senseless to get that sort of satisfaction..

Really, I think its a better plan to send Ryan's stats to Tonk, and see if he would think there is any validity to it. At least get him to re-think what may be going on. Wildlife management is a guess at best... like forcasting the weather. I will be sending in my survey as well, and I think that is a good sign that the DOW does want to hear from sportsmen on the matter.

Show up with thousands of pissed off hunters to their open house..... Lead an educating and informative awareness campaign to get people to bombard them with emails..... Occupy DNR rally... Freedom of information act anything you can get your hands on until you hit pay dirt and make a insurance lobbyist connection...

First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win.

I would be surprised if Tonk has not already heard about this discussion and read at least a part of it. I think that is a good thing. I'd really like to get HIS input on the matter. Really, I would. As I mentioned earlier, Mike Rex told Tonk of my concerns two years ago, and he called me to discuss them. I really DO think he is a bright guy, and enjoyed the chat. That doesn't mean I think he is beyond making an error, and I think in this area, we may have killed a few too many deer. Given a couple years of lower doe harvests, it would bounce back. I view the thing kinda like sharpening a knife; you work one side a little too much in an effort to get the optimum edge and you wind up with a dull blade. I think we need to flip the knife over and work the other direction a little. That doesn't mean I think they have dulled the edge intentionally too much, but it doesn't hurt for them to know that in areas...wait for it...it just isn't cutting it!

Good post, Brock. This approach, I like. The "going after them like they stole your baby sister's virginity approach," I don't care for very much.

Good thread. I too have seen fewer deer in the areas I can hunt, except for the urban zones.

Looking at the recent year to year total kill deer numbers, I can understand if the ODNR believes the population has not been reduced to where they would like it. Unfortunately, I don't think they will change the regulations until the numbers actually show a marked decline.

As long as its not made personal a good debate is a great tool too get your point across.... that's why some are good at it and others not so much lol.

I know you don't like it man.... And I understand that.. But you have to understand politics also.. Politicians never change because you asked them to or reasoned with them... Never... The only thing that actually makes change is heat, and lots of it... Anything less only allows them to talk in circles.. Do you seriously think tonk is going to sit down at a table with you or even 15 you... Look at the numbers, understand your point.... Then say.. Well shit guys.. Never thought about this... You're right... Hold on while I get the lobbyst on the phone and tell them we're going back to 2008 levels..... Thank you sooooooo much for telling me.... Hahahahaha...... Never man..... Never..... Has that happened in political history.. While I would love to hear tonks reasoning and see a discussion on the matter I have ZERO faith that would change a solitary thing..... The time for talking is when you force them to the table. Not ask them.

I don't know, maybe I am naive. But, he did move Fayette to Zone A. Now, if he would just eliminate the bonus gun week.... :)
