Sounds like he survived the double ECMO. It sounds like it had never been attempted at Cleveland Clinic before. Sounded like a last ditch "we pray this works" procedure. Better reports this morning. Still sedated and paralyzed. Heart and kidney function were okay. They don't know side effects of a double ECMO so it is very scary. If I understand correctly they essentially remove your blood and oxygenate it since your lungs aren't able to do so. A double on this procedure is new territory. O2 saturation was 100% this morning. Miracles happened yesterday.

Not sure they know the source or reason for the infection yet. All of these updates are scary so the update this morning was very welcomed. Thanks for all the support. Matt (and his family) sounds like they still needs the prayers.

Haven't heard a lot lately. I reached out and got some more info. Still shaky ground but making some gains. Getting a tracheostomy tomorrow which sounds like a common thing in situations like his. Has chest tubes to help drain..slowly reducing the sedation. Showing movement in hands, fingers, opening eyes a little longer each time and then resting shortly after these basic movements we often take for granted. Not out of the woods but it sounds like he is making the baby steps in the right direction. Continued prayers for him and his family. Prayer his lungs continue to fight off whatever it was that attacked them. Thanks for following along.

Wish I had a better update. I don't. Testing has shown zero lung function. Some solidification in the lower lungs. ECMO machine is oxygenating his blood. Opening eyes longer. Taking him off sedation and out of the medically paralyzed state has been okay. Wigging toes. Squeezing fingers. Baby steps to rehab. Unfortunately, his only option now is a lung transplant. How quickly he can get lung or where on the priority list? I have no idea. I don't know if it is a reality or not. My heart is breaking for my friend and his family. My prayers will continue for Matt.
