Goin snaring

Thanks fellas, hope to kill a bunch more!

I weighed the male this morning at the urging of my son. He was 42lbs. Pretty good size. The largest I've killed was 44. Hope to have a bunch more to hang off the scale before we're done.
 
That's real cool Brock, but it would be a lot more fun to drive them out and shoot them......

Any weekend you want to make a few drives let me know.
 
Will do, but I'm enjoying the snaring thing so far. It is my plan to try killing every one of the dang things I can..and I hope that is a large portion of them. I think if I kill em off now through spring, it will at least give the fawns a fighting chance around here. I know other coyotes will fill in the gap, but maybe it will help to keep em thinned while the fawns are little. Who knows, just trying to help em.:)

Hell yea, Brock... way to go! I found a trapping supplier/fur buyer just a few miles down the road and I think I'm going to get into snaring for 'yotes. This may be a dumb question, but do I need a furtaker permit to snare coyotes? Is a hunting license sufficient or is the furtaker permit necessary since it involves trapping instead of shooting?

No fur taker required for yotes, but if you catch a coon or fox you will need one.
 
Hey brock how are you setting your snares?... Are you tying them to trees/stakes or are you using earth anchors? How much are you paying for say, a dozen sets?
 
Most of them are tied off to trees, and I will continue setting them that way. I have some Gawes sets that a buddy gave me, they can be staked and set in fields without having to tie off. They are about 13.50/dozen. Snare shop.com. I am using 3/32 cable to tie off and extend the snares. It is available at most hardware stores...our local store has it for 14 cents a foot. They are cheap set ups, and it seems you can buy them cheaper than building them.
 
Cool, thanks. I'm going to check out the shop close to home and see how their prices compare. Can't wait to try my hand at snaring!
 
I'm boiling snares right now, but a busy day scheduled at the shop will keep me out of the woods until tomorrow...dang!
 
Snuck home long enough to make up another 35 tie-offs. The yotes in Fayette County gonna be callin me the boogie man. hehe
 
Thats just great!!! Now I'm sitting here saying to myself "I bet I could snag a couple of those" Thats just what I need, another hobby:smiley_clap:
