If you had a revolver, semi auto pistol and a home defense shotgun at hand - what would you grab in a home defence intrusion situation

Not enough information to make a choice. My home vs your home vs someone else's all changes the game. Also what are they loaded with? Who else is at home. Too many variables.

Yes it a very good point - the AR also a very poor choice for intrusion defense- btw a shoot gun makes a good club and you old military guys know how parry and thrust

Incorrect an AR is an EXCELLENT choice for home defense if set up appropriately.

Semi auto pistol. Easy to maneuver from cover, adequate capacity to lay fire against multiple intruders without having to make every round count, and isn't going make you bleed from your ears and disorient you like a shotgun in an enclosed space would.

In the end, like so many other good discussions we have on this forum, all that matters is that you can get your hands on a weapon that you are comfortable with. That you have thought about what it will do, and you know what’s beyond the target. That your loved ones are safe.

I’ve got several handguns within easy reach around the house but have always wanted to buy a 12 gauge double with short barrels. Only reason I haven’t is because it only gives you two shots then I’d have to fumble for the shells in a drawer to reload....maybe should consider a riot type 12 gauge auto that hold many shells...that’d get their attention.😂

People watch too many movies. After the first shot goes off, common criminals are pissing in their pants and sprinting for the door. Shotgun all the way.

BTW, the Active Self Protection channel on youtube is worth checking out.
Love that channel

Most home invasions the perpetrators look for an empty house. Those kind of criminals will most likely get the hell out if they are surprised and confronted and almost any weapon is adequate. Home invasions where the preparators know someone if home are exponentially more dangerous and those criminals are more likely to be armed. Confronting those criminals require more serious weaponry and proficiency with that weapon.

Long guns are much easier to use than handguns. A compact rifle or shotgun is much easier to use than a handgun in a high stress situations. Either have the power to make a threat cease to be a threat quickly. Go watch the Kenosha Kid videos and see how well a relatively untrained and no experience individual engaged multiple threats, kept almost all shots on target (an no collateral injuries), the sling helped him maintain procession of the rifle.
edit: when I said “compact rifle or shotgun” I mean one with a buttstock.

In the end... "IF POSSIBLE" Best thing is exit the house and dial 911... Let the police deal with it... Key words here are "IF POSSIBLE"...
