I called the Soil office today to learn about testing and got instructions on what to do, I'm going to do this right away so that I have a baseline understanding of what's going on.
I'll be adding pear trees for sure, maybe mulberry and persimmon to the mix. Also considering elderberries (why not? something to do...)
I'll be ordering Doyles thornless blackberries - I'd like to put them in this fall, but I'll have to wait to see my soil results and if the timing can work for me or not - I'd be willing to drive to IN to get some.
The Stark Bros website looks very promising, also came across https://www.foodforestnursery.com which looks like an excellent resource as well.
I think realistically that planting trees will be next spring, and I may spend some extra $$ on a couple of trees that are farther along to get a jump, but be economical about the bulk of them.
Looked at some videos on air layering, and that's interesting. That, and cuttings, and rootstock/grafting, are a next year project.
I'm going to have to read up on drip irrigation.
And soil management.
But I'm determined to make this happen. My grandkids will have fruit.
