Wrapped up the double header weekend last night with similar results. I was second in the heat race and third in the feature.

Feel like I'm getting there slowly. Those top two guys are tough. I need to improve faster. This is my own biggest critic typing. Lol

Solid weekend of racing. Onward we go. We race again at Limaland June 28.

I'll be honest. The GoPro is a humbling tool. I've probably said it before but it's worth saying again. I share the videos with a few guys I respect for their honest critiques. Don't ask their opinion if you can't handle the answers. It can sting hearing what you need to hear. It IS helping though.

I've got my new motor together. I'm referring to it as "my backup motor" for now. Mainly because I don't think I can get it dropped in and dialed in in 7 days. Work schedule is full. Needs lots of odds and ends items. Tonight I went thru header holes, transmission, power steering pump, and engine mount bolt holes, etc. I want to be able to drop it in without surprises. Glad I did. There are a few which need tapped or at a minimum chased.

So in 8 days is our "big money race." 75th scheduled race for the series since inception. They came up with $75 to start for the first 20 trucks. Heat races are generally $30/20/10 for the top 3. Next race is $75/50/25. I think there is a hard charger bonus as well. Then we have $750 to win. I've been dancing with the leaders but they've been walking away a bit at a time. I'm going to need to run a flawless race. If I can't start out front and hold them off, I need to be on their heels and in striking distance. People get stupid over big money. I can see the top two get into a tangle on the last lap or two while battling for the lead. I need to stay out of it or expect to be bumped or doored or run up the track if I'm out front.

Moved a shock mount that I think has caused some handling issues. 9" shock which only had 3" of rod showing. I moved the top shock mounting bracket to have 4.75" of rod showing. That right front is critical. It needs a bigger range of movement than 3" and it is bottomed out. Hopefully that improves the handling a bit.

Went thru the engine. Something was just not right at the end of the race. Came in with higher RPMs and it just sounded off. Started it the next day and there was a ticking noise in the head. One of the mouse traps was off and an exhaust valve had loosened up to where I could turn it by hand. Also found a foreign piece of metal under the valve cover. It was an intake valve seal that came out. No time for my builder to fix it. He did push another one back into place which was about to come out. Said it has probably been like that a couple races and I didn't know it. Might burn a little oil. Might smoke a little. Run it. Keep an eye on oil.

One week to watch videos, strategize, keep going over every nut and bolt. Mentally prepare.

Good luck but for $750 I don't think I would even get the truck off the trailer.
Unless he truly enjoys this . Don't get me wrong I agree with you about the money especially as this is something far from my type of hobby but after reading his thorough and detailed posts every week of how to become better and where he's slipping i must definitely say he's very dedicated to this and for that major props to him. I've done alot of dumb stuff that I enjoy heavily that costs me money and if I'm lucky for free simply because of the enjoyment I get out of it. However I could be completely off I know you and everyone else on here knows him way better than I do , this Is more of an outside observation . Anywho happy weekend everyone and best of luck Mr Phil!

Yeah it's not for the money. I was kind of shocked though on pay out. That's like two tires lol. Haven't been to a race in a while so don't know what tickets cost or anything like that.
I don't blame you these guys pour alot of money and time into these smaller series and they definitely deserve more .

I guess you wouldn't unload for a normal weekly payout of $250 to win either then. 🤣

Some guys gamble. Some drink a lot. Some chase floozies. Some like hard drugs. Some golf. Some buy the camper and golf cart for a seasonal camping spot. Some like motorcycles. Some like shooting. And some like racing. They all cost money and I guess they all make good memories and stories for when you're an old man.

For reference, you would spend $20-40k on a competitive stock car to race for $500. Not including truck and trailer to get you there. Even more money spent on a modified or late model or sprint car. They don't pay much more but the last few do have some races with bigger pay outs. They also have nationwide competition rolling in for a big purse.

Yeah I learning new stuff on here lol. Now I understand why you keep the fenders on it. I was thinking win a race and fix the truck up with the winnings lol. On my way home from work I just seen a red 88 truck with a big black panel van pulling it. Maybe someone from your area up this way? Probably not but weird to see here. It was raced on dirt so not Toledo speedway.

Fremont is probably the destination. I think it's a big weekend for them.
